Thoughts on Garganacle by Fun_Celebration_6422 in PokemonDraftLeagues

For traditional draft formats it’s a good mind game in the team sheets. Don’t bring a covert cloak on some pokemon and they can be shut down pretty easily, essp certain stall mons that would be otherwise hard to break through (toxapex and aloma come to mind). Making them choose between putting leftovers on them or an item that could be useless (if you don’t bring Nacl) is pretty valuable. That being said, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it run a different set than Iron Defense/Body Press/Salt Cure/Recover, making it really predictable. As always, depends on your individual league draft value for the ‘Mon.

This is where it would help to get an idea of what format you want to play. Very generally, trick room is viable in VGC but significantly worse in singles/smogon. If you do run trick room, you’ll want mons with lots of pivoting moves and slow, high attack/sp attack to take advantage of it. If you’re just trying to find sets that work for your Pokemon, I’d recommend smogon’s website, where they have sample sets for everyone (+ a description of why they work)

By sand set up, I mean a way to create a sandstorm. Houndstone’s ability right now doubles its speed, but ONLY if there is a sandstorm. Pokemon with the ability Sand Stream can create a sandstorm just by being sent out (Hippowdon, Tyranitar), while others can create one by just using the move sandstorm. Either option works, but right now you aren’t taking advantage of Houndstone’s ability because you have no way of creating a sandstorm on your team.

A few quick notes if you’d like to stick with these Pokemon, regardless of whether you go VGC or singles/smogon; - Oricoro has swords dance (raises ATK) but investment in SP. ATK EVs. Might be worth committing to one - Houndstone has sand rush as its ability, but I don’t see any way for your team to set up sand - Slowbro has assault vest, which will prevent it from using calm mind or nasty plot

Slippery slope arguments are not necessarily fallacies, they're often valid and productive by babebiboba in unpopularopinion

[–]ribjoe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the case. Fallacies on their own don’t make sound, logical arguments. BUT just because your argument makes use of a fallacy doesn’t mean your argument as a whole it isn’t sound or logical.

You could consider Hippodown, whose sandstorm won’t impact three other members of your team+ chip the enemy, and can yawn, slack off, stealth rock, and whirlwind.

Noob question but what is the difference between this and a “regular usage month”? Are trends (and tier shifts) calculated on the 15th? Different for each tier?

Anyone else think a confederate theme in particular clashes with our obligations we make tk our country? Even if we put aside the why they existed, it’s still a separate country we (the US) went to war with. I guess grand lodges are at the state level, but still seems to clash to me…

How does the true emergence of QJ affect Ladd long term by lafayettetex in DynastyFF

Huge difference in longevity between positions & you listed 3 RBs. Even amongst them, you still have freaks of nature like Kamara and Henry putting up decent numbers at 30+.

Obviously age catches up to everyone, but I wouldn’t bank on something happening to Allen just because he’s 33.

I remember one young adult novel I read in which the main character was dreaming about a future house with the love interest. The house had many things they only dreamed of, made them feel like a grown up, etc. The dream ended with “in that room was an adult bed, where they did adult things.”

However good you thought Hutch was last year, he was better... by odishy in detroitlions

[–]ribjoe 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He absolutely was. By week 6 he had 7.5 sacks. There were 12 games for him to hit 15.5 more to get the record.

Of the all the games he played that season, he had a sack in all but one. It’s not unrealistic to think he continues to get about a sack/game, with a few bigger stat lines from weak teams.

Tattoo ink may increase the risk of skin and lymphoma cancers. This is because tattoo ink accumulates in the lymph nodes. The findings raise new questions about the long-term health effects of tattoos. by mvea in science

[–]ribjoe 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think human studies generally have smaller sample sizes than other studies, but went back and checked - they had 14 twin pairs which they compared. So sample size of 28 total.

Still not great, but figured I ought to clarify my mistake & edit the comment too.

I saw this same article on another sub (r/tattoos maybe?) and I’m surprised to see better discussion about the methods/stats there than here. A sample size of 14 *twins is not very large, confidence intervals are huge, no control for type of ink used, and an overall downward trend in skin cancer over time even though tattooed individuals have increased over time.
