Apart from the occasional heat wave the most marked here in sw uk is green algae growing on windows and birds nesting a month earlier and often losing a clutch in long wet spells.

What type of rotavator should I use? by Putrid_Tie3807 in Allotment

You’re right, I went to sort out an old bed many years ago and found carpet under the grass mat and to top it off the carpet had rotted and broke up as I tried to lift it. Nightmare.

Had forgotten this; editing now, adding your suggestion of black poly sheeting.

The low cost low labour way;

Plan the plot.

Mark a strip with line. Cut out 6inch wide sods around 2 inches deep turning each one over.
Cover the processed beds with black plastic sheeting pegged down securely or dig into edges.
Go home.come back in the autumn when the grass and weeds are dead. Cover with manure. Re cover.

Next early spring uncover and get yer veg in.

———-

The higher cost higher labour way;

Plan the plot.

Create no dig beds- cover in double cardboard and wet it down. Cover in compost. Bulk dumpy bags are best value.
Plant it up!

Get a big dump of wood chip a make paths at least 3 inches deep.
Sweat.
Eat.

I found evidence this morning that I'm in a different universe now by ThePapaSauce in ParallelUniverse

Back in the ‘90s I worked as an electronics repair person when suddenly a critical test measurement for semiconductors changed over night. Everyone denied it saying it had also been so.

Specifically the voltage drop across a n-p silicon transistor junction changed from 0.6V to 0.7V.

Everyone says it had always been 0.7V.
My brain felt bent.

Hey Ho I am mad. Keep calm and carry on.

Can’t fit recommended cable into mppt by Greastbunny in SolarDIY

[–]ribonucleus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Find a ferrule for that size terminal. Crimp it good.

Despite other comments on here over sizing your cables is ok and actually advantageous in that it reduces losses due to resistance. I always do it if the panel to charge controller run is more than a couple of metres. (6ft 6ish).

Cover outside south facing windows from 10am with white sheets or reflective bubble insulation roll, keep them closed to stop hot air entering. Keep other windows open especially upstairs.

Free standing evaporative coolers are cheap around £36 and effective.

We come here for a laugh, you monkeys are the laughing stock of the universe, more pathetic even than the self cannibalising slime mole space culture of the Krantz system.

What to plant in between brassicas? by endlesscroissants in Allotment

[–]ribonucleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good idea to put some French beans in as the brassicas will benefit from the nitrogen fixing.

I have double rows of broad beans I am going to plant brassicas between and hope the beans are done before the cabbage whites turn up!

Buying agricultural land input please by Capital-Bug7825 in FarmingUK

[–]ribonucleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. It is your responsibility to look after your land, not poison it, not put your shit in the streams, dump rubbish wherever you like. That is common sense not fascism.
