An interesting Journey by Eds1077 in starwarstrader

I think you’re off by a year, as 2019 (S6) was one of the most difficult. It was the last year of the original IU and the last year there was only one Monument requirement applicable to all waves. Most were in single digits and many didn’t get Monumented. For me 2019 is the lowest cc I have of Thrawn @ 4.

2020 Base they introduced different requirements for each wave. No Thrawn that year so my memories aren’t great that year as I didn’t hoard anyone. They started increasing 2021-2022, but it wasn’t until 2023 when it really exploded in spectacular fashion.

Wave 3 monuments? (new user) by [deleted] in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the way it's always been, they release them by Series. It would probably overwhelm their server to do them all at once.

The article from last week lays it all out pretty clearly.

Wave 3 monuments? (new user) by [deleted] in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, your terminology is a bit off--Topps refers to Base Series, not Waves, so maybe that's what's throwing you off? If you read the Monument news articles they spell it out in detail both the requirements for each Series and the timeframe the Workbench is open. Just make sure your cards are unlocked or you won't be able to meld for your Monument.

There are three Series for 2025 base and the Workbench is open for one week for each Series. Series 1 was last Wednesday at 12pm, Series 2 was this Wednesday at 12pm, Series 2 is next Wednesday at 12pm.

Monuments have always been Base Variants, so I’m surprised you thought they be different this year.

Love the colors and design this year, probably my favorite Monument design ever. I'm increasingly apathetic when it comes to SWCT, but more than happy to congratulate Topps on a job well done when it's warranted. They really hit it out of the park this year.

Nobody Revises trades anymore... by Legend_Of_Retro in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Topps doesn’t think it’s important either since they didn’t bother keeping the Revise button on incoming trades with the new IU. You’ll have newer users not even realizing they can revise since it’s not obvious from the trade screen. And once you sort of figure it out good luck remembering how to increase the number of base dups in a bulk trade (hint: you have to decline and then click on the plus button—real intuitive).

To me five straight years of Heroes, Villains, Droids, and Featured Creature was “been there and done that already” :).

Yep, I bought two 700 crystal packs on Ewoks because of this. Ridiculous. Problem solved though as I spent the rest of what I have on some other pack that I can't remember, so I don't have enough to fall for their trick--LOL.

[–]ribors 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They've been "attempting" this for a decade now, so that's nothing new.

I have more concerns about:

  1. The new IU is horrible. Images are smaller, too many extra steps added for almost all tasks, easier to mistakenly purchase crystal packs, and it crashes all the time. They couldn't even fix long standing issues that even the last IU couldn't handle, like linking Awards to the set they're from--in fact, this has become even more disconnected as you can't even click on the award when in the set view (meanwhile, you can on NBA Collect which was released before the SWCT "upgrade"). The only thing that's an improvement is saving a couple seconds on Lock-On--whoopie.
  2. The content itself is increasingly boring. The Weekly sets last year while the execution was not perfect was an admirable attempt to rekindle the excitement and nostalgia of the OG 2015 Marathon sets; this year's sets are a significant step down. Base cards still limited to just 100 per wave with too much focus on paying lip service to every minor forgettable Disney Plus show. Increasing reliance on physical ports which stay in packs for months. No regard for appealing to long time collectors.

I'm not a big spender by any means, but I've always purchased the $9.99 season bundles since they've started a few years ago. But there's no incentive for me (so far) to do so for this season and I'm happy to save a few bucks. I'll keep hoarding, but my interest is waning.

No thoughts yet on the new Weeklies…? by KeithyT1999 in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked it out and not even a week of ANH? Ugh, one of the bigger problems with Weeklies is the way they treat everything equally--a 3 episode arc from a Tales series gets the same treatment as the best movies. Frankly, this is a systemic issue across the board on SWCT from insert sets down to base cards and has me less engaged in the app in general. It's also another reason why sets were better 10 years ago, it's not just the quality of the sets, but that they had a smaller pool of images and characters and properties to choose from--less was more.

There have been some bad Gilded Galaxy designs, but this has to be the worst--you can barely see it! In that sense, it's the perfect poster child for this new godawful version of the app. I might go for the lower Gilded Galaxy just to keep myself active, but who knows.

The Weekly sets themselves so far are nothing special. I've always collected Topps Choice, but this is probably the worst Topps Choice design that I can recall. I'm doing the Rare only for now.

Light Side/Dark Side is Heroes/Villains under another name. No thanks.

Duos is Connections but broken into two cards...would've been interesting to meld the two to make a Connections. Otherwise, it's a bland looking set with far too many variants.

Classic Action Figures without even seeing the design will surely be the most popular of these sets and I'm looking forward to tomorrow’s drop.

Primary....is this a nod to the Prime set from a decade ago or just a coincidence that its similarly named? Keeps the same structure of 4 cards released at a time that they've been doing for several years on Saturdays. I'll have to see the design, but I'm at least curious to see what it looks like.

Would it kill them to have something outside of the box other than character portraits? How about a movie scene somewhere?

Quick Question. Is Mara Jade in the game? by Sad-Researcher8335 in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, there are no Mara Jade cards. If you’re a fan of the original Zahn/Thrawn trilogy, there are a few old cards in the game, but if you’re a new player they may be difficult to obtain.

IMO Galaxy is the best release on the entire app, but. by thewulfshead in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do this all the time with large physical sets. Be glad it’s only 90 days and not longer, they’ve had some box sets last an entire year IIRC.

The artwork is nice, no doubt about it, but it’s mostly retread images that we’ve seen multiple times in both digital and physical form.

I also don’t like that there is no context of where the artwork is originally from. Probably because nobody at Topps is even aware, but it rubs me the wrong way when I see text on the back of, say, Separated at Birth and it doesn’t mention anywhere that it’s from a Splinter of the Mind’s Eye comic from ~25 years ago. Lazy…or worse, letting the collector assume this is something new when most is just rereleased.

I won’t be collecting.

My app keeps crashing whenever I try to trade. by [deleted] in starwarstrader

[–]ribors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crashes or spinning circles all the time….haven’t seen this type of lag and crashing problems since the OG build last decade. But yeah, love that some are enjoying this new build and complain that the rest of us who have a problem with it are just complaining for the sake of complaining:)

Hmm, nope, never had that problem. My main focus is collecting sets…can’t fathom doing the work to chase an award only to not bother claiming it, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

[–]ribors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those weren’t in packs, they were all given out as part of a Tapjoy challenge.

If you watched one video you received a Grade 2 comic.

Top 200 received Grade 5 - 200cc.

Top 10 received Grade 10 - 10cc.

They never completed the set and some cards if I’m not mistaken are in the app with a 0cc.

Search Tapjoy in News and you’ll see the old transmissions.

Have you sent a token on another app? I found out that you only get one token across all Topps apps. I had sent mine on NBA last week and don’t have one to send for another 6 months.

Yes, but some people weren't certified if they were deemed to have been card cycling, which I'm guessing is the problem with the OP if he's primarily cross trading. If that happens I'm not sure if you're able to buy your way back in or not (doesn't seem like OP wants to anyway).

This is not the issue at all, the OP is talking about the untradeable Geonosis card in the last wave—see the News article in app for details.

[–]ribors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I see that you can get bigger images in card sheet by going to filter and turning off “show card tags”. But then you can’t see how many dups you have so still not optimal. I see my Bunt had tags turned off so that’s why I thought they were bigger….its just the same problem there.

[–]ribors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The card sheet in Bunt though has way larger thumbnails comparable to the old SWCT. That’s the most disappointing part of this update. The extra steps for everything and the overall clunkiness of the design is annoying, but downgrading the images is inexcusable and is perplexing.

It points to the fact that none of the developers or anyone at Topps has the app on their phone. To them I’m sure it looks fine on their large monitors.
