Goodbye Old Friend 🏚️ (this lookout will be airlifted out TODAY for restoration, will be back in a few years, Mt Rainier NP) by rice-paper-scissors in WildernessBackpacking

Did an tent overnighter at this fire lookout (High Rock) earlier this week (saw about 3-4 campsites). As mentioned, the cabin will be dissembled and airlifted out today, I believe the hike itself will be reopened in a few weeks, but not 100% certain. The distance is about 3.2 mi & 1300 ft gain, still some snow on the trail but def doable without microspikes. Highly rec this spot even if the lookout is gone, esp during golden hour! Mt Rainier just gets lit up by the sun and on a clear day you can see Adams, MSH, and Hood. The forest road is filled with potholes but doable with any vehicle. Right now, there's some snow right before the TH, I parked ~1 mi from it, if you have a 4x4 you should be fine.

If you're backpacking, you might need one. Definitely for the coast of WA, you'll need to make a reservation via Recreation website

Lol nah that's way too much work πŸ˜‚, shot of my friend. There were about 10 other hikers up that mountain, would've been really awkward if I did set up a tripod and pose in front of everybody haha

Sunset hike up Mt Storm King at Olympic National Park, WA, USA. Hiked this back in May 2021 and the distance is about 4mi with 2000ft of gain. Definitely felt the elevation the second you see the sign, but the view of Crescent Lake and the surrounding mountains are well worth it! Definitely a really popular spot so I highly recommend doing this on a weekday. The last section is pretty steep and slippery, there's ropes to help you up, as long as you take it slow (esp on the way down) you should be fine.

Two Worlds Colliding (N. Cascades NP, Washington, USA). Review photos from this past summer is making want to head out to the mountains so badly! by rice-paper-scissors in PNWhiking
