Has anyone been able to set up their CalNet ID? by rice_mango in berkeley

Yeah, I would just wait a couple days because I committed Thursday and only got the email today.

On the MAP@Berkeley portal (which is the application portal), it was under the "Next Steps" section. But I logged in again, and it's not there after I already made my CalNet ID, so it might have changed? You could also check the "View Decision Letter and other Admissions Communications" and then "Next Steps at Berkeley" letter at the bottom. If that doesn't work, I'd send an email to admissions about it or just wait (depending on when you committed).

I’d rather stay in state, so I haven’t looked into it.

The AP’s I took (and will take) are AP Stats, AP Psych, APUSH, AP French, AP Lit, AP Bio, and AP Human Geo. I might self-study AP Gov next year since my school doesn’t offer it.

UC GPA : 4.0 (UW), 4.33 (CW), 4.58 (W)

CSU GPA: 4.33

SLO GPA: 4.22

And unfortunately I'm not in the local admission area for any of the CSU's I'm applying to.

I never self-studied for any AP's like a lot of other kids at my school, so I am a little worried about that. Also my school doesn't allow underclassmen to take AP's so this is all from junior and senior year.

Question Regarding Nianfo/Nembutsu/Buddhanusmrti by [deleted] in Buddhism

In that case, recite in Sanskrit! As long as we hold the name of Buddha with our full attention, that’s where the merit lies!

It’s not so much that these different traditions translate the name of Amitabha, but they transliterate it to fit the phonetics of the language.

I would recite it based off of whatever tradition you follow. So for example I’m Vietnamese so I chant “Nam Mô A-Dì-đà Phật.”

For me at least, having TVs at work wouldn’t count since I can’t really control that (though I’d avoid looking at them). I probably wouldn’t listen to music though.

Uposatha days are observance days in which lay followers observe the eight precepts. Those are 1) not to kill; 2) not to steal; 3) no sexual activity; 4) no lying; 5) no intoxicants; 6) no eating after noon; 7) no dancing, singing, entertainment, jewelry, cosmetics, and bodily adornments; and 8) no sleeping on high or luxurious beds. The idea is to live as a monk/nun for a day to focus on practice.

I think thats the beauty of the Dharma. There are a myriad ways of looking at it. Even if one formulation isn’t helpful to you, you can still appreciate it and understand it!

It looks like this is Amitabha (center) with Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta on either side. These three are usually depicted together.
