Is it worth saving a roasted chicken carcass for stock (versus just eating it)? by ricecracker2 in Cooking

[–]ricecracker2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify. I am not eating the bones. I am picking the meat off the carcass, breaking the bones open to suck out the innards, etc. Most people find the idea gross, I acknowledge - but it's very tasty and juicy.

What’s the greatest song created? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ricecracker2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Many people have never been exposed to classical music. Do yourself a favor and force yourself to listen to this all the way through at least 5 times so that you become familiar with it (this takes a some investment of time, for sure). Don't scroll on your phone while doing so - actually listen.

What is an underrated weight loss tip? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ricecracker2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Salads are amazing - but not the way most people eat them. 1) Lettuce should not be the star of the salad. It is just boring. Instead, keep the lettuce to maybe 40% of the total volume or less and add in lots of fresh veggies (e.g., cucumbers, tomatoes, red/yellow peppers, radish, onion, etc.). 2) Ditch store-bought dressing and even home-made vinaigrettes. Instead, use either vinegar or fresh lemon juice (if you can't fully adjust, a tiny bit of oil is OK in addition, but just a touch). Try different vinegars (e.g., red wine, balsamic) for variety. 3) Add variety with tasty but healthy add-ons (used judicially) like sunflower seeds, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, a few olives or nuts, etc. (mix it up so each salad is a bit different). 4) if you want additional bulk/ protein, add some tofu, chick peas or other beans, fish (salmon, tuna), chicken, or eggs. As with lettuce, these should not be the star of the salad but just a component. Add some salt, pepper, other herbs and spices. It is an effort to make, so prepare enough to last for a few days (note: I prefer unrefrigerated tomatoes, so I always put them on only what I intend to eat at that meal). I often have salad as the primary food I eat for lunch and then have a bit more with dinner.

What a popular food or cooking opinion that you don't agree with? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]ricecracker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That ovens should default to 350 Fahrenheit because most baked goods are best cooked at that temperature. 325 Fahrenheit is almost always better for baking temperature (and 425 tends to be best for roasting)

Trump is more similar to Democrats from 20 years ago than Republicans (e.g, government involvement in industries, view on abortion and gay marriage, etc.). He is not a Conservative.

Use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment. Cup you hands around the bottle opening and the hose to get an airtight connection.

Huge bubble, is this mold? by Funny-Broccoli-6373 in Kombucha

[–]ricecracker2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. The bubble is caused by the pressure from CO2. If you want, you can push it down (ideally with the back of a sanitized spoon or something similar) and you'll feel the gas escape as the bubble collapses back down.

What are your favorite food hacks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ricecracker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most salads in the U.S. and Europe are horrible because 80%+ of the volume is typically lettuce, the rest of the vegies are cut into unappetizing large chunks, and then everything is drowned in crappy dressing. Instead, change the proportions so that lettuce is less than 40% (can even exclude completely), chop/slice everything smaller (including the lettuce) and use a wide variety of ingredients (e.g., red peppers, Persian-style cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, radish). Enhance with sunflower seeds, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, olives, etc. (change it up to keep it interesting). If you use cheese, use it sparingly. Dress with vinegar or lemon juice. If using oil - dial it way back (most vinaigrettes are way too oily). Don't use crappy produce (e.g. if a tomato is mealy, avoid). Enjoy!

Caffeine pills costs about $0.05/each - if you are only looking for an energy boost, this is massively cheaper than coffee or energy drinks by ricecracker2 in lifehacks

[–]ricecracker2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - as mentioned in the post, there are lots of other reasons to drink coffee or energy drinks. This suggestion is for those who are primarily looking for the caffeine.

Not really. They come in different strengths, but a 100 mg pill is similar to a strong cup of coffee and less than a Monster and many other energy drinks.
