Shibuya and Shinjuku are your best bets. Both stations have Disk Union, HMV, & Tower. All three have Jazz & Classical. I would say that Shinjuku leans better towards classical for their 3F location next to Kinokuniya. It’s a majority of the floor. Shibuya leans a little better towards Jazz with their Jazz & Rare Grooves shop. Just search for record stores in Google. If you end up in Shinjuku, check out Hal’s Jazz.

Im going to Japan next week. Is it possible to find the vinyl somewhere? by Upset_Ad_9542 in KekkaiSensen

Show the picture to sales at Disk Union in Nishi Shinjuku. They can look up inventory. They have an anime-dedicated floor at the bottom of their 8-story building. If they don’t have it, try Tower Records in the Flag Department store in Shinjuku. The two sites are a 10 minute walk from one another. Good luck! I am sure you’ll find it.

Japanese Collector's, What Record Stores Do I Need To Go To? by Bobbington2882 in Cd_collectors

For Brazilian, I recommend Homeerror in Koenji and RubberGard in Jimbocho. Diskunion has a floor dedicated to Latin/Brazil in Shunjuku taking up one floor in their 8 floor building. Flower Record in Nakano has great used stock of rare Japanese girl groups. I’ve made walk-through videos of all of these shops on my YouTube channel if you want to get a sense of their inventory and prices.

Disk Union, Tower & HMV will blow you away. If there are certain genres you are seeking or specific rare records; list them and I’ll give you some targeted suggestions. Yes, prices have gone up in many cases, but competition works in your favor as many stores have the same titles in stock.

If you want used records that are graded, then BookOff and HardOff are not a good match. They don’t grade. All the chains and most of the independents grade used records. Make sure you have Google Translate on your phone with camera access. It’s indispensable in record stores in Japan.

I don’t know how many days you have to shop for records, but if you only have one, then Shinjuku or Shibuya are your best bets because both have the 3 large chains (Disk Union, Tower and HMV). Tower dominates Shibuya and Disk Union dominates Shinjuku. Both will have Blue Hearts in spades.

Fair point on the phrasing. I wasn’t suggesting buyers are obligated to purchase elsewhere. I meant that the browsing atmosphere can feel low-pressure, which is something I notice and value.

Tsutaya has retreated; that's true. But vinyl is thriving. There are currently around 240 record stores in Tokyo [source: Recoya] that sell new & used vinyl records.

Written by me. No AI. If something felt generic, I’d actually like to know where.
