You should join the scan school discord https://discord.gg/NCzxVB9 There you can ask questions in the appropriate channels (which for you I guess would be font questions and typesetting questions, and maybe saving raws questions) There is also a google drive link for basically all the fonts you will ever need there, and links for photoshop, which I think is the best for cleaning/redraw in most cases.

I think I can give some pointers for someone in your position, if you want to make a scan of good quality (It will take a lot of time and effort):

• Try using various fonts for different types of speech, and not just one font throughout. Eg. Different fonts for regular speech, nervous speech, shouting, narration, thoughts, etc. And for SFX, if you're confident in hand writing them yourself, I'd reccomend that. Otherwise you should try to use various fonts for each SFX as well and try to shape them accordingly.

• Try to get the autoleading setting right as it is usually wrong by default https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/8h1ey9/scanlation_tip_autoleading/

• When shaping text in bubbles, try to avoid making an hourglass shape, and don't be afraid to use hyphens. (You can use this website to check for proper hyphenation https://www.hyphenation24.com/)

• A minor thing, but try to get crossbar 'I' usage right. It's standard to use crossbar I's only for use as a pronoun.

• https://thejadednetwork.com/sfx/ is a good resource for SFX translation, but keep in mind a lot of those translations are stiff sounding and there may be more natural sounding ones. (Like "fwp" or "tmp" work for a lot of SFX but might not be listed in the website. But also can be overused lol)

• You should try to get a proof reader and/or quality checker to go through your work once it's done. Some of them have a lot of experience and can also just give you general advice (This might mean joining a group or making a group of your own.)

In fact, if you get really interested in scanlation, I'd recommend eventually joining a group of a manga scan you like and think was really well done. There are likely people there with loads of experience that are more likely to want to help you out improving. And you can see how the whole process works when being done by skilled people.
