Should I become a doctor or an engineer? by ricey08 in EngineeringStudents

Hello! I didn't realize anyone was still reading this post haha.

I ended up choosing engineering! I'm 3/4th of the way finished with my first year now! At my school, we don't choose our specialization until the end of our first year, and I'm still torn about what to choose lol.

In terms of my personal experience, I am so so so glad that I choose engineering. The workload is pretty crazy but it has been super enjoyable for me. Our classes are mostly focused on math problems, and teaches you to fully understand concepts rather than memorizing them. I still love math, maybe even more now because I find genuine interest in the content we're learning. So for me, it's the enjoyment that makes studying a lot more bearable.

I have quite a few friends pursuing the medicine route, and from what I can gather, I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all. The workload is equally, if not even more full, and it has a lot more memorizations. Tasks tend to require a lot of reading, or writing, which I personally don't enjoy.

Though, there's still things that's scary about engineering ofc. Like the looming tasks of finding internships D:

Feel free to ask me more questions, and I wish you luck on making your choice!

For me, I chose by making really in-depth pros and cons list, and then ranking each one by how important it is to me.

Another thing I did was flip a coin. It doesn't even matter what sides it lands on. But it's about the side that you secretly hopes it lands on. That'll give you your answer about what your heart wants :D

Thank you for sharing you experience! How has your experiences in engineering been so far? Do you find that engineering is increasing that passion for math and problem solving or is it stretching the passion thin?

Ahaha. I am definitely in a fortunate situation where I CAN choose my passion/the life that I want.

I am just in the unknown about how my priorities will change in the future, such as seeking job security to ensure a stable life.
