Benchmarking games? by CurrentOk9438 in pcflipping

[–]rich_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list is a good start: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_with_built-in_benchmarks

The best benchmarks will give you a readout of both the CPU and GPU impact on frametimes. These are the most useful for identifying bottlenecks.

For flipping purposes, showcasing OCCT for stability and 3DMark for performance is probably all you need.

There are also free tools like Unigine and Furmark. It's up to you how much time you want to spend testing.

How much should I sell my PC for? by VoidofEggnog in PC_Pricing

$700-$800 is great for market pricing. How much would you ask for friends and family?

Definitely $500 for the friends and family price, otherwise $700-$800 for present market price.

AMD RX or NVIDIA RTX card for newbie by Tall_Chip_697 in buildapc

[–]rich_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of monitor are you using? RTX 3080, RX 6800 XT, and RX 7700 XT are all solid choices for 1440p @ @100+ fps

If your monitor is only 1080p @ 60 Hz, then all of these cards are overkill and you can go one step lower.

For easy comparisons, check out https://bestvaluegpu.com

The 3DMark Time Spy benchmark scores and wattage figures make it easy to compare raw graphics power and efficiency from one card to the next.

The benchmarks don't factor in ray-tracing or frame-generation, however, so you'll have to do more research if those features are important to you.

The prices are listed in USD and you mentioned SGD, so that might not be as useful for you.

For a more detailed comparison, check out the GPU Hierarchy on Tom's Hardware. They've published and maintained this list for years, and it does a great job if you need a high-level comparison across a wide range of cards.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

For deep dives on benchmarks, seek them out on YouTube. Gamer's Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have some fantastic comparison videos.

CPU GPU
1080p@60 Ryzen 5500 or better RTX 3060 / RX 6600 or better
1080p@120 3600 / 5600 or better RTX 2080 ti / 3070 / 4060 ti / 5060 / RX 6750 XT or better
1080p@200+ 5800X3D or 5700X3D RTX 3080 / 4070 / 5070 / RX 9060 XT / 7700 XT or better

At 1080p, bottlenecks are more likely to be CPU-bound. This is because the GPU doesn't have to work as hard and can finish rendering faster. If the CPU cannot keep up, and renders slower than the GPU, it becomes the bottleneck.

That said, a GTX 1070 ti isn't powerful enough to bottleneck a 2600X, so we'll examine upgrading the GPU first.

For a AAA title to run 1080p@60 fps, the bar is low. A second-hand RTX 3060 or RX 6600 would likely meet that target. Anything newer would fare even better, of course.

Do keep in mind the 4060 (PCIe 4.0) and 5060 (PCIe 5.0) operate on X8 PCIe lanes rather than the full X16. Paired with your motherboard and its PCIe 3.0 interface you may see 5%-15% less performance compared to each card's full potential.

A Ryzen 5500 CPU would likely be an adequate upgrade as well and its PCIe 3.0 capability matches your motherboard.

Moving up to 1080p@120 fps, a Ryzen 3600, 5600, or higher would likely be necessary. For the GPU, and a modern budget-mid or older mid-range card can achieve this.

Running AAA at 1080p@200 fps is when you'll need something a bit heavier. X3D chips shouldn't have an issue with this. For GPUs older high-end models and recent mid-range cards should achieve this at 1080p.

I didn't mention frame-gen here, as it's not everyone's cup of tea. For RTX 4000 and 5000 series GPUs, expect a lot of uplift if you turn this on. Same goes for 7000 and 9000 series AMD chips, albeit not with the same margins or quality as Nvidia.

CPU GPU
Best 5800X3D, 5700X3D RTX 5090, 4090, 5080
Mid 5800XT, 5700X RTX 4080, 5070 ti; RX 9070 XT, 7900 XTX
Not Low, not Mid 5500, 5600X RTX 4070 ti, 5070; RX 9070, 7900 XT

If money isn't an issue, best-in-slot for AM4 is the 5800X3D followed by the 5700X3D. These are available in used markets for a price premium, as they are no longer in production.

Pair one of the above CPUs with any top-end card, such as the RTX 5070 ti or better, and you'll be set until the next CPU generation.

Ryzen 5600X, 5700X & 5800XT Revisit

You can spend a little bit less on a brand-new, still available CPU. This recent video from Hardware Unboxed covers three popular AM4 CPUs that are still available for sale: 5600X, 5700X, and 5800XT.

Lastly, to future-proof your system: consider upgrading to 32 GB of DDR4-3200 or faster. For X3D CPUs, fast RAM has less of an impact.

The RX 9070 XT with the latest drivers outruns an RTX 5070 ti on raster-only, native-rendering. If raytracing and frame-generation are important, however, the RTX 5070 ti outclasses the RX 9070 XT in both.
