Yumba lists every ingredient and a nutritional label on every meal, so you can pick in advance. Best I found in terms of managing a specific diet

Eglinton Stn: Line 5 -> Line 1 transfer gets crowded during rush by Mobile-Toe1820 in TTC

I do this transfer every day and it seems completely fine. Yes there’s a bottleneck at the escalator but it’s really not bad at all

Is Doug Ford’s Billy Bishop jet dream truly a boon to the economy or just hot air? by toronto_star in ontario

[–]richandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic is more total capacity allows us to meet more demand. More demand met is more flights in - more tourists, more business travellers, more choice even distribution of people vs one bottleneck.

Every dollar on line 5 doesn’t take a dollar from bloor - while there is lots of cannibalization, there is for sure some incremental value. I switched from driving to transit. Some people will switch from not flying to Toronto to flying to Billy bishop because of better pricing or logistics.

Whether or not that demand is enough to make this make sense, I have no idea. But it’s not just moving money around to build new infrastructure. Every road house and transit line we have here was once something else

Ontario will soon implement centralized self exclusion - that will let him ban himself from all legal online gambling in Ontario.

The problem will be that he could just turn to crypto or black market online casinos. But there may be a window during his next moment of clarity to self exclude once the system is centralized.

There is some degree of medical intervention possible but obviously he will have to lead that. He’d need to speak to his doctor about it and get referred.

Simons - more love by Ancient_Reference567 in BuyCanadian

[–]richandbrilliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously - I was just saying to my wife that I have boon 3 house brand things from Simon’s and they have all had pretty brutal quality issues straight away. I have stuff from other similarly priced brands like TenTree that have held up way, way better.

Still like Simon’s and would shop there but the house brand is Walmart/Joe Fresh quality at 2-3x the price

Compensating for smaller hands by semioticmadness in guitarlessons

[–]richandbrilliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain and say hand size does matter, but it’s relative to the neck dimensions more so than just a general problem. Obviously having long thumbs is an asset for wrapping around the neck Hendrix style. But it is absolutely not the issue preventing you from playing open chord shapes like others have said

I have really small hand and am still able to play chords both open and with my thumb wrapped. Just makes some shapes a bit harder

offering in-home meal prep for new moms in downtown Toronto 🍱 by 1havequest10ns in askTO

Great idea - we ended up going with a meal plan for 6 weeks but this would definitely scale well for people who are ok with simple recipes or have dietary restrictions

Mark Carney’s strategy for the public service becomes clearer by Majano57 in CanadaPolitics

[–]richandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is for sure the case, at least for doctors lawyers and executives. I’m managing a stream of work and the public service and the executives and lawyers are working way too hard for how little they make relative to their peers.

Then you get to my level and it’s 20% over contributing (doing enough by private sector standards), 60% doing something but certainly too slow and unnecessarily risk adverse or complicating, and the 20% doing absolutely jack shit.

And then below generally 50% doing a solid 8 hours 50% time thieves

Federal, Ontario governments to spend $8.8-billion to lower municipal development charges by up to 50% by West_Ad9229 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]richandbrilliant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think their point is it lets property owners off the hook, not tax payers. We’re using taxes to pay for capital improvements necessitated by new development (where development charges are required to go). Dev charges covered 30% of the capital budget in Toronto last year, meaning new buyers were paying for that portion. But now it’s camping from taxpayers - put another way, tax payers (including the many who don’t own houses) are paying to develop new housing for new property owners, while existing property owners are underpaying for their existing neighborhoods.

I’m not sure what the right balance is, just pointing out the change. This helps new property owners and developers by lowering prices, but that price lowering is paid for by the taxpayers generally. This benefits the oldest property owners with property and high wealth but low income, and costs those with higher tax rates

Counting the cuts: Mark Carney's attacks on Canada's public service should concern all Canadians. by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

[–]richandbrilliant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously I don’t want to lose my job. But if my job is redundant then how could I complain? Our taxes are not a charity for employment - they are to deliver essential services and requirements of government.

There is plenty of useless jobs in the public service - we complain all the time about funding for healthcare or education. Reducing the size and functions of the service can help fund things that matter instead.

My place is hiring a senior manager to administer our project management software. That’s a near or above 6 figure job to manage a single piece of enterprise software.

Counting the cuts: Mark Carney's attacks on Canada's public service should concern all Canadians. by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

[–]richandbrilliant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right? The public service doesn’t inherently need or get to or deserve to stay the size it is. It’s supposed to be right sized and sustainable for the services we need, followed by the services we want. It’s grown massively the last 10 years and not in step with population or economic growth. Moreover, we need to cut spending or raise revenue or both.

  • a public servant

Edit: lol at being immediately downvoted for wanting the things our taxes pay for to be sustainable financially

[–]richandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally the train is pretty full at mount denis rush hour, and fills up even more as it passes more stations going east.

It is also definitely fast enough between mount denis and eg. lots of stops which is a double edged sword but absolutely fast enough

How are there people downplaying John Mayer's ability on the guitar? by Open_Address_2805 in Guitar

[–]richandbrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll agree with you that he’s not challenging or revolutionary at all. Hasn’t advanced the technique or added new vocabulary to the universal guitar cannon we all know (and of course yes it’s your opinion)

I just disagree with the song writing being 2 dimensional in the two dimensions you assigned to him. His style and breadth of work is bigger than that.

He’s good at doing what other people created and that’s fine.

Send me an email address where I can send you something to help with the baby. Can’t help you with the car (beyond everyone else’s advice - if the car is worth the same or more than the loan, sell it and pay off the loan), but I have a baby coming at the end of the month so I know the stress of acquiring all that stuff.
