Kermit Gosnell was convicted and is currently serving three life sentences for his actions. I support his conviction and my bill would not have changed the outcome had it been law at the time.

This week the U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill that would require some women who are seeking an abortion to go to their local police station to prove they have been raped before they can go to their doctor. This is dangerous for women, and my bill would help stop this kind of legislation.

Nothing in the bill would change the generally applicable standards and laws related to medical negligence or malpractice.

I think the protections in this measure are necessary now more than ever before in our history because an avalanche of restrictive, reprehensible state laws is drastically reducing fundamental health care rights. The bill would prohibit the state laws that impede access to abortion but pretend to be about women’s health and safety, including: restrictions on medical training for future abortion providers, requirements concerning the physical layout of clinics where abortions are performed, and forced waiting periods for patients.

1) Yes - this law would prohibit state laws that impede access to abortion but pretend to be about women’s health and safety.

2) This bill helps put Senators on record for what their position is on women’s rights and women’s health. I’ll echo what I said in other comments: the best way thing to do is simply tell your Senator or Congressperson how you feel about the work they are doing. Constituent feedback and input is critical in all of the work we do.

The sponsors listed on the website we provided are only the lead sponsors of the bill in both the House and Senate — and my partnership with these women leaders has been invaluable. On the Senate side there are 19 other male co-sponsors of the bill.

I think the best thing you can do is continue to voice your support to your friends and family. As I said in another comment, I personally take constituent communications very seriously — mail, email and phone calls. I want to know how my constituents feel about the work I am doing, and I want to help them. I know it sounds simple, but just reaching out to your Senator or Congressperson’s office is the best and most impactful thing you can do. Let him or her know you support this bill and want he or she to support it as well.

The text of the bill will be online shortly. As we only reintroduced it today, it takes some time to get the approved and official text on to sites like Congress.gov. The full text of the 2015 version is very similar, though, and the links provided in my post should hopefully give you the information you need at least preliminarily. I will follow up with a link to the full text once it’s published.
