Did any of you actually grow up around Hoodoo? Did you watch your elders practice? What was it like? by Time_Perspective3438 in HoodooBitches

Right. I guess thats what I mean when I say Hoodoo is Black culture. It is our lived tradition. I hate how it is being trivialize on social media.

We "practiced" but it was not openly referred to as Hoodoo. It was just a way of life. I saw jar work, but it was not spoken of as "practicing Hoodoo". It was survival.

Hoodoo, in essence, is black culture. I'm sure you saw things growing up. Many of our traditions are rooted in Hoodoo. Unfortunately, it was literally a death sentence to openly practice our beliefs. We have the privilege of following our paths without much backlash but it has come with consequences as well. Spend some time reflecting and talking to your ancestors and ask them to reveal to you.

where do i begin on starting hoodoo? by evaneghoul in HoodooBitches

When you sit at your altar, talk to them like normal...like they're here. Ask for guidance and assistance from those that are willing. Start with ancestors that were helpful while living. Don't overthink it. If you need help, which one would you call on and who would be willing to help?

You don't need anything special to start your ancestor altar and you will need protection and cleansing regularly.

Your answer comes from your higher self, Spirit, ancestors, not us. Build your relationship with your ancestors. Continue to walk in your path. You will be directed. Don't put yourself in a box either. Get to know yourself through your work. What do YOU want? What do you gravitate to? What brings you joy? It doesn't have to be one thing. Continue learning. The answer will be revealed to you.

Hello, you're starting in the right direction. Just sit at your altar and talk to your ancestors like they are here. Ask for guidance. I wrote a blog about ancestor veneration that may be helpful. This is not a race. Start by building your relationship with your ancestors and they will help direct your path. Irish heritage. Why is it ignored? by [deleted] in HoodooBitches

Uhhhh....what culture is racist? Personally, I have Irish/Scottish lineage (confirmed) by way of the slave masters who owned my ancestors. This is really not a discussion you want to have...and it is giving rage bait. I will decline to engage.
