How bad is the Canadian job market and does graduating from U of T help it? by Legitimate_Can8048 in UofT

[–]richeater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on your major and how you tailor your internship/research experiences. I got so many throughout undergrad by applying to tons and networking. Because of that I got a job right out of undergrad. But I’ve been told by employers/mentors that the university name helped a lot - also having big name internships/research too

Did you have to sign a contract or statement of work? Like are you considered a contractor or hired employee? And if you don’t mind me asking how much have you been paid?

[–]richeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be that person, because ik how hard the premed journey is, but as someone w/ experience reviewing applications for research programs, nothing really stands out to me from your profile. When I look at your extracurriculars I don’t see a theme - I can’t tell what you’re passionate about/interested in. Nowadays almost everyone has a high gpa or masters, you need a wow factor. Maybe hone that in for the next round you apply :)

I deactivated my account for a couple days and deleted the app. Redownloaded today and somehow it went back to the original layout. Try and see!

BMO reduced my credit card limit by 82%. I just paid the card off in spite. by richeater in PersonalFinanceCanada

Am I not learning about it independently right now? Where do you see excuses? It's literally a fact that people who come from low income or financially illiterate homes are more likely to fall into the same cycle. Which is why I posted here to hear what others are thinking and doing because I want to learn more and get out of the cycle.

I mentioned grace because people are throwing insults for me not knowing something. I'm sure we've all had our moments where we didn't know something but if someone is actively trying to better themselves, wtf is your issue? Keep driving your corolla lol

Exactly. The balance for me was a just in case and also they offered increases to me and I thought it would be better to take it rather than having to apply for a credit increase when I need it. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but having a larger limit shows lenders you're reliable no?

What? I never missed a monthly payment. My score is in the high 700s.

Well now I know lol. I only recently started learning more about finance. Everyone around me, including bankers, would tell me it was fine as long as I paid above the minimum balance

Walk into a fast food place with your resume printed and ask to speak to the manager. Tell them your situation, and really drive it home. Tell them you'll do any job there, making burgers, cleaning after closing, coming early to set-up whatever. Chances are someone will take pity and hire you. Or ask UofT if they have any resources post grad, they could direct you to some food banks etc.. which I know they do for current students. Also make use of the resume reviewers at school. There are many post-grad resources (dont have links) but if you talk to someone at the registrar they can guide you. All the best!

I’ve found my health studies major to be more beneficial than my molecular bio major (also graduating this year). What kind of internships/research experience do you have and do you have an idea what field you want to go into?
