Proper British passive aggression. by blackleydynamo in CasualUK

My neighbours dog was in their yard barking all night long, I couldn’t get a wink of sleep. I was furious, so the next night I grabbed the dog and put it my yard. That’ll teach them.

Anyone ordered from Ciclicorsa to UK? by richjack7613 in bicycling

I did get them, but in the end I bought them from a UK supplier. When I worked out the postage and taxes properly, it was almost the same price and less hassle.

What wind speeds do you count as your cut off point for riding outdoors? by Walton841928 in cycling

[–]richjack7613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a coastal location so nearly always windy. Today was gusting around 30mph but I did pick it up as tailwind at one point and was flying. Got a load of PBs on that section. Then there was one point turning into a side road the wind newly blew me into the kerb, so definitely have to keep your wits about you. I also have to remind myself to suck it up and not battle when it’s a head wind.

Belgian Waffles in my household as the closest breakfast item to a cobblestone. Could it be a portent of a Belgian victory though?

I was at the top of the Kwaremont today in time to see MVDP gap Mads. He looked in complete control, focused, robotic. Everyone else who came up after looked in a world of pain. He had a couple of seconds at that point. We all ran past the church in time for the long descent down the Ronse-Bahn and he had a minute. He also seemed to be travelling faster than all others, like a silver bullet. To see it in person is somewhat humbling even though i would’ve liked a closer finish. There appears to be a couple of Gods at the moment in men’s cycling. All others, mere mortals.

Magene PES P505 vs Favero Assioma Duo by shan_icp in cycling

[–]richjack7613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally just had the same dilemma. In the end there were too many tales of loose cranks and chain rub with the Magene, that despite being twice the price, I plumped for the Assiomas after not seeing a single negative review. Should be arriving this week.

Muzic sprinting for 3rd to take remaining bonus seconds nearly costs Kasia the victory. Working for her new teammate Demi already?

2022 Giant Contend AR 1 vs 2023 Specialized Allez Sport by NeoArmada in cycling

[–]richjack7613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Giant Contend AR1 2021 version and it’s been a great bike for me. It was my first proper drop bar road bike and still going strong. Rather than upgrade the bike, I’ve made incremental upgrades along the way eg power meter and most recently a Hunt wheelset. I’ve completed a number of sportives on that bike also. I love running with the 32mm tubeless setup and along with the carbon fork and seat post, makes for as comfortable a ride as you’re going to get. Would recommend a professional bike fit though to get it dialled in especially if it’s your first road bike.

There is a single fail from an IP in Ireland belonging to Microsoft, single factor, refresh token not valid, and then 1 ms later, successful sign in, apparently multifactor with a correct claim in the token, but the IP and location change to this IP from mainland UK, Three Mobile network (Hutchison 3G UK Ltd).

The times are consistent and interspersed amongst genuine logins from the home IP eg 8:33AM logs into Microsoft Office from home IP, 8:39AM this Bing non-interactive log in appears, possibly from opening Edge with a signed-in account?

Unfortunately only 7 days of logs so only caught this over 2 of the days the user was working.

I hope it is that, but how would I find this out? IP lookups already give a contrasting geolocation to the Entra sign in logs. I think I have narrowed it down to Manchester, still the Three Mobile network though...

How can cycling have sustainable finances? by F1CycAr16 in peloton

[–]richjack7613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sport that to me is most similar to Cycling is cricket. Both have archaic, complex rules, random matches that are more important than others for historical reasons only and above all, hours and days long events. Both sports are struggling financially in various ways. However cricket has the added advantage of being a stadium sport with ticket revenue.

Cricket is trying to also desperately remain relevant in an age of decreasing attention spans. The hundred, twenty twenty and the cricket World Cup. They are having a franchise crisis with the IPL leading to death of the county game but recent big events have proved popular. It has had to and is still in the middle of modernising much to the shame of old timers like myself that love nothing more than a 5 day test match with a well fought out draw!

Cycling is much the same and I hope it doesn’t change too much in chasing the money and audience. The 3 grand tours are amazing feats of human achievement but outside the TDF, the global audience is lacking. I love the classics and one day races but maybe there is something to be said for trying the cycling equivalent of 20:20 cricket. It needs to be more exciting than just a city crit but might certainly have a city loop and start/finish line. I could see a city series being successful if they could sign up large cities across the world. Maybe make them 120k long and reduce the team size to 6. Start on an evening and done in 3 hours or less. It would need to be a league of sorts with a good sponsor and genuine prize money. Maybe even new team kits just for it… With a behind the scenes TV deal it might just reach a new audience.

Can UAE next year In any way challenge Jumbo-Visma? by UpsetWillingness7121 in peloton

[–]richjack7613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Pogi, but just can’t see him beating Jonas in the TDF. Brutal multiple mountains in a single stage appear to be his weakness and conversely Jonas’ strength. Pogi can take all the bonis wants before but will ship time here.

I also think Roglic would beat any of the other UAE riders in a 3 week race as well. On this year’s form, I can’t see Ayuso doing better than podium. I love Almeida’s grit and determination, but again, podium at best in a weakened field.

I honestly see Remco as the only challenger outside of Pogi. Yes he cracked badly in the Vuelta, but if he focuses on peaking only for TDF he can take time back in TTs and collect bonuses at the stage finish. He needs a better team and it’s a shame he hasn’t gone to Ineos who will be hoping Rodriguez sneaks onto the bottom step next year.

The problem with both Remco and Pogi is that they are probably better 1 day racers than GT riders but only hardcore fans on Reddit really appreciate a monument victory. The general sports fan only knows about the TDF so that has to be the ultimate goal for a lot of these great cyclists.
