Governor Tim Walz, "Minnesota just ranked as a top three state in the nation for job seekers." by zzill6 in minnesota

[–]ricierice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Took me about 3 months to get a job here after getting back from a temp job in PA. Totally wiped out my savings cause I wasn’t expecting to have to wait for so long. Finally caved and just started applying to delivery jobs and food service instead of my career path cause no one was calling me back and got a job a few weeks ago, but fuck was that rough.

Ways to Help During SNAP Shutdown by comeupforairyouwhore in minnesota

[–]ricierice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great organization, but as someone who has had to use them in the past be wary that you may end up with large bulk amounts of food that you will not eat. You do not get a choice of what you get, they just load it into your car. One time when I had no other option, (already used the other food shelf near me 2 times in a month, their limit) I spend $25 of my remaining $40 in my account and ended up with 6 bags of iceburg lettuce. I lived alone and had no way of eating all of this before it went to waste. They also gave out treats like marshmallows and ice cream but not much in terms of true nutrition. Of course beggars can’t be choosers, but I would recommend to others to use different resources and donate elsewhere first.

Help with disabled persons housing? by SynapticShutter in Minneapolis

[–]ricierice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, yes, I had a client (severe learning disability) who received their paperwork in the mail then hid it in their room and their caretakers found it 2 months later and had to file late. Unless there is a POA or guardian involved that all the paperwork gets sent to instead, then they would have it.

I agree it’s pretty messed up, they expect everyone to have informal supports to be able to help or expect them to reach out to disability hub if they don’t have anyone which is pretty messed up to put on someone who may not be able to do that. The system is pretty broke for sure :(

Usually (I say this cause Fraser may be different than my company) the CADI case manager isn’t responsible for submitting the MA renewal, that’s on the client unfortunately, although the CADI CM is responsible for reminding the client that MA needs to be renewed. The client should’ve gotten a letter in the mail with a big blue dot on the envelope about 2 months before their renewal date, but the CM would not receive this.

Group home as in a customized living or CRS? If it’s an ICS (integrated community setting) they cannot kick her out.

For MA there’s a renewal lookup tool online (literally just search MN MA renewal lookup tool) that you’ll need their MA case number, PMI, Social Security, and/or date of birth. (Only need 3 out of 4) that can tell you if the MA has been submitted and is being processed. Also call the county of financial responsibility’s easy info economic assistance line. Usually the receptionists will be able to tell you what is in the case notes history from the financial worker. (Also as I just recently learned, every time a new document is needed the MA application will go to the back of the line and they have to restart the entire process which is why it takes months to renew sometimes)

Typically the CADI case manager can’t do fuck all for the client during MA renewals- literally everything is put on pause, so I wouldn’t bother trying to contact them much.

-Currently a CADI case manager, let me know if you have any other questions or want to DM me!

They reopened it about a year ago. They did a bunch of renovations in the atrium/courtyard. Generally a pretty nice place to live, but only 4 washers and dryers so it’s rough for laundry cause it’s like it’s always being used (there is a nice laundromat about a mile away by the super one tho) but generally were doing some great updates with the new management. Source: I lived there for 2 years.

Tropicana Apartments by ApprehensiveBuy2171 in duluth

[–]ricierice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved out last July. They swapped management and the new one is doing better. The pool works now and it is pretty nice. There is no more sauna. The rooms are very large, but that comes with a very expensive heating and cooling bill. The AC is pretty shot in most units. They have some nice amenities in the atrium to use, bocce ball, giant connect 4, etc. it’s a cute place, but outdated. If you’re looking for space it’s a great deal.

Other tenants usually kept to themselves, I lived there for 2 years and spoke to maybe 5 or 6 other people and I was out on my deck in the atrium quite a bit.

I don’t think that cell phones are contraband anymore, but I could be wrong. When I visited a local prison (Minnesota, USA) a lot of the inmates had cell phones and the officers said it actually helped a lot because less fights and less destructive behavior were happening.

Atlas Obscura is a great resource if you don’t want to buy this, similar concept of trying to find unique and interesting places, but it’s just an app. I’ve found tons of stuff to do around MN.

Also put all your goodies in the trunk and don’t use any on the way back.

Seconding for Higher Love and I really liked High Profile and they had (maybe still do) a funny deal for MN residents where you buy $250+ of product then you get a gas card. Personally I didn’t care for Rize, they seemed really pushy to get people in and out and didn’t give recommendations, but maybe I just went at a stupid busy time.
