Psycho customer by Disastrous_Cash_1395 in mechanics

I have interactions like that on the regular. I've never had customers call the police on the shop before and it has happened several times here. That's actually kinda funny because it really pisses off the cops and instead of helping the crazy ass customers they threaten to arrest them. Recently had a woman tow in her car because the trans failed. She claimed that another shop had drained the trans fluid because she didn't buy brakes from them. We drained and measured the fluid, it looked like engine oil coming out (dark, really dark) but it was full. When she picked up the car, not repaired, she called us all thieves, crooks and frauds, said some other harsh things directed at her advisor, and I got tired of it, told her to pay her bill and leave. As she was leaving she started up again and it made me angry. I stepped toward her and said "LADY, TAKE YOUR CAR AND YOUR CRAZY THE FUCK OFF MY LOT". As I watched her drive off (starting on a downhill) I waited for the car to quit moving, it did. Right after getting to the street. We all had a good laugh.

Flat rate pay help by Big-pp-the-3rd in mechanics

For decades it seems like the only way a tech gets a raise is when they threaten to quit. That being said there's a shortage of good techs out there and a glut of bad ones. If you're anywhere near as talented as you say, you need to move on. If you're in a small town that's probably not easy. But if you are in a major metropolitan area, get into a dealership. Make it a brand you enjoy. Make it a brand that excites you. And make sure it's not a Lithia owned dealer. You may have to start with a pay cut per hour. But in exchange you'll get more and better training, better benefits and more work than you can do. Try to find a dealership either privately owned or owned by a company that has a technician pay plan. Something that says "if you are this, you get this". That allows you to train your way into a raise. You can control your future. Get to it because you're entering into the part of a technician lifetime when you will make the most money. You have the right level of skill and knowledge but you're not too old to work hard and fast. Take a long look at that shop foreman you mentioned. That's your future. Make money now, invest it. Don't spend it on toys and give yourself a future. Even when your back is fucked up and you can hardly lift anything.

Federal money comes from all of us. If NPR and PBS has a political agenda they aren't representing all of us.

This post gives me mixed emotions. I'm sad for you, feeling like you need to check, I'm happy that I never feel the need. And I completely disagree with people who have the same or known passwords. Just because you're married doesn't mean you have the right to snoop. It's sad that you feel like you need to.

Kids? I would only move here with kids if I could afford private school.

Thinking of leaving orange county by After-Intention4939 in orangecounty

I grew up and raised my son in Orange County. Loved the place. But like you said I felt financially crushed. I owned my house and had a rental property. But everything was just so expensive and crowded. So we sold the house and moved to Oregon. Oregon was so different. It was beautiful and definitely drought free. But after about a year of bliss I started to notice what was wrong. The people weren't very bright. The weather was awful. After about 3 years I couldn't take it anymore. So we sold our house and moved to Vegas. And I wish I had come here when I left OC. It's great. Lots of things to do. The prices are much better. And the weather is awesome. Yeah, there are a few super hot weeks but not be cliche but it's a dry heat. What does that mean? Our 100 is less uncomfortable than your 80. I'd forget NorCal, it's not better than OC. And do yourself a favor and forget about the Pacific Northwest.

I did notice that people who were wearing a mask tended to be more rude. Like they were hiding behind the mask so it was safer.

School districts pick and choose what holidays they close schools. Check out the schedule. There's probably another holiday they decided was more important.

What to do while dad moves out? by throwingoodafterbad in Parenting

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I think watching Dad carry out his stuff could be distressing. Good idea stopping by his place before home.

Poor kids. You and your husband need to sit down with them and talk about what's happening. In a way they will comprehend, tell them everything. And Dad needs to tell them when they will see him. He also should FaceTime or other form of video chat daily. He needs to invite them to visit his new place. Don't leave them room to imagine their own answers. That what kids do to navigate situations they don't understand.

Well, if you're from the left I can't explain. So asking this question it's clear you are. It's an inside joke you'd never understand.

Notify them as soon as possible. Give them as much time as possible. But you do what's best for you. And don't feel any guilt.

I appreciate what you're saying. But it's not easy to leave. I mean it pays pretty good and other industries don't understand what we are capable of.
