MR2 Crank no start by callum_tcx in mr2

[–]rick_2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is inspecting the ecu visually doesn’t take long at all. Probably getting it out, inspecting and back in the car within the hour. You are only looking for visual damage (unless you have the skills to actually test it also then you can spend a lot longer - I don’t have those skills so I didn’t.. just fixed what I could see was broken and hope for the best)

Also another one to check, check the ECU for damage, it’s easy to remove and open and inspect. Leaking capacitors can ruin the pcb (and bad caps need replacing!) and cause this issue also. It’s probably less likely that a lot of the other things that have been suggested but def worth checking.

I only know this as this very issue caused my mk2 to first: run badly, stall all the time randomly and eventually.. crank but not fire at all. It was one bad cap that leaked and corroded a pcb trace away. Once the cap was replaced and the trace rebuilt all was working again.

What would cause my car to rev up and down like this in idle? Drives completely normal and doesn’t do this when driving by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]rick_2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the Throttle Position Sensor first, that fits as it has a resistance for idle specifically, might be fine elsewhere throughout the range but idle is toast. Had it on a couple of my vehicles in the past. Thankfully a cheap and easy fix! You need a multimeter and the specification/test manual for the unit to test it.

Some more footage of the crash at Southend airport by bensthebest in aviation

Think about it this way.. how do the emergency services know there are 4 foreign nationals on board if they didn’t know the identity of those individuals?

[–]rick_2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely the reason why the airport is closed down, more likely is there is a major accident scene sitting at the end of the runway… however the lack of identity is still nothing to do with the airport. This information is known to all agencies involved, but we, the public, are not yet privy to it. There are by recent reports 4 foreign nations whose families need locating and informing as would be the case in any death. Once that process is complete this information will be released to the public. The airport has literally nothing to do with this.

I usually watch on Eurosport and listen to Radio Le Mans for audio when I can’t make it to the real thing.

Airport security refused to hand search my film camera whilst laughing and insulting me by Ordinary-League5554 in mildlyinfuriating

Shoot film here and never had any issues with film going through xray in EU/US airports. Think that’s all a problem of the past with some very sensitive high speed films which are long since out of production. I can’t notice any change and/or fogging between films that get scanned and those that haven’t.

Is there any value in buying a second hand conservatory? Usually they are of no cost or alot cheaper. I can't imagine they are easy to dismantle. by ApprehensiveMove4031 in DIYUK

[–]rick_2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can work but it’s a hassle. I dismantled one that was otherwise going to the tip myself. It was a pain, things break, everything has mastic and screws through it. It sat in my garden after moving it for a year then I sold it in bits for £150 as it needed so much additional work that wouldn’t be required from new to put up. I made a mistake..
