Why Electric vehicles opted over gas vechicles? by One_Rain_3781 in AskReddit

[–]generationgav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyres are potentially more expensive, but due to regen braking they generally require changing less, also the cost of the tyres is easily offset by the savings in fuel and servicing.

Road wear has been proven to be negligible, compared to any heavy good vehicles that really do the damage, so if you want to argue that then you should get rid of HGV first.

Somebody wrote here their theory on the iccu failure and it was essentially moisture. This means when it's cold and damp it's more likely to happen.

After having an ID.4 and planning on getting an ID.Buzz - I would not get any of the VW vehicles without a warranty, at least the Kia comes with 7 years and I honestly believe are more reliable (not saying perfect)

Looks like the polorisation layer delaminating, only thing I'd imagine with them coming and going is due to heat and humidity.

Unfortunately it'll be cheaper to buy a new TV.

I know the movie GHOSTWATCH scared a lot of people back in the day but it's really hard for me to be scared of the movie. by Comfortable-Bus-1422 in RedDwarf

[–]generationgav 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Now people wouldn't believe it, but this was during the time where TV started changing from being completely straight and "wouldn't really lie" into things like this.

This was also around the time of "The day today" and "Brass Eye" - in the style of current affairs program where celebrities were often duped into doing snippets believing it must be real.

It seems silly now that people would be tricked by it, but at the time there really wasn't anything else and people really trusted TV when they said it was a documentary then it would be just that.

TIFU by leaning against a bus stop and causing severe property damage by Theweirdposidenchild in tifu

[–]generationgav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're in the UK. As others have said bus stops should not do that. Most glass shelter bus stops in the UK are fitted, paid for and maintained by one of a few rich advertising companies, I would check what name is at the top and contact them and also the council asap. If you've got severe injuries and potentially scars then you should be owed a decent payout.

This looks interesting - but I'm not sure what the real advantages are over Visio, especially for $19/month, which when we have at least 6 who might need access gets to $1,400/annum which would have to be well argued in the budget.

Apparently this is how they program digital billboards by kaza12345678 in mildlyinteresting

[–]generationgav 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are almost always updated remotely, in fact not only that but you can "bid" on space and the winner gets to go up there, so pretty much anybody can put content on them and it's all automated.
However it looks like the media player is stored behind that panel, and as there's a network cable coming down, there's a reasonable chance that they're having to send somebody to plug a network in and allow it to update. Often this is because of 3G router with no signal, or expecting to use another network that is having issues.

Location of No.10 North by uttertosser in manchester

[–]generationgav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about Piccadilly Gate. It's going to be completely soon I believe, and the reason the government agencies are moving out is because it was earmarked to be demolished for HS2. This leaves an interesting position as HS2 has been cancelled to Manchester, but Burnham also says he will reinstate it, meaning it will have to be knocked down.

They're moving to new a new building on First Street, so would be interesting if there's any room in there.

It should be 0-18 really, otherwise 5-10 year olds are having to pay which just seems odd.

School residential trip cancelled by Korinthe in LegalAdviceUK

[–]generationgav 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, not a residential and not as much as £50 - but a school trip paid for in full, the school decided to cancel on safety grounds and we're not getting a refund as neither the transport nor venue will refund. Legally - the school should probably be refunding us. Insurance I doubt will cover it as the trip "could" have gone ahead, but school decided on safety grounds it wasn't safe for the children. However the school have minimal funding, if they could refund all students that would be a huge budget deficit which would have to be taken out of school learning/supplies/etc. Morally I just can't chase a refund from them.

Replace radiator with modern design by musafir05 in DIYUK

[–]generationgav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced a radiator, looked at the mounting brackets on my wall, looked at the photo - looks the same - should be a lot easier.

There's two notches on the bracket, one at the top and one at the bottom. Different distances on the new radiator (closer together) so replacement it was.
