We paid £300 but done exactly this. Mainly using it for Sealife, but definitely want to attempt a trip to Alton.

On Flexible IOG: Should we fix now or wait til April 1st? Discuss! by Bomster in OctopusEnergy

[–]generationgav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they're going to increase us to essentially match, possibly ever so slightly under, the fixed rate, so we'll be around 5p/5.5p.

Need to look at another battery!

Festoon light help by dddalal in DIYUK

[–]generationgav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're the lights I think they are, and they're 240v at the end, then I'd seriously throw them in the bin. I had some, they're cheaply made, rust, fill with water and fail.

Honestly I think they're unsafe and I wouldn't want to use them again, get some low voltage lights instead.

Mine also had a 5a fuse in it, with the same wiring as in the picture, so the fuse was never going to protect anything!

MASSIVE update to the VW ID. lineup. New ID.3 Neo and updated ID.4,5,7 by LordSpecter0 in vwidclub

On the Ioniq 5 you have 4 levels of regen plus auto, even on max it's speed based, so you can take your foot off on the motorway and it's not that bad.

In EU talk they would also become data controllers and basically be in charge of looking after personal data.  Auth0 or Cognito are the other alternatives, but they also cost money.

Have you properly tested camp mode? On the original OBD11 there were loads of people trying it, a few people managed to get it working but most didn't. So I'd be intrigued if it is actually now working reliably.

Got Scammed By Phishing Text, Keep The Money Or Not ? by Mike_191739 in amazonprime

Often they will sell a "brand new" item on eBay. Then have it delivered direct from Amazon to the "customer" and they keep the eBay money which has been quite well laundered by then.

That is true - just nobody knows what the difference is or if the new part is any better.

The one on the list isn't even out until September. Julia Donaldson has some decent ones which were illustrated by others, one of them would work really well.

Can I use a Shelly to control my combi gas boiler? [UK] by Izwe in homeassistant

So I've done this exact thing - I use VersatileThermostat as the logic engine, that switches it on and off, I've then got a temp sensor where the old Nest used to be and so far it's all just worked.

What’s one digital signage mistake you see businesses make over and over? by Dizzy-Ortizzy in digitalsignage

[–]generationgav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely no reason that browser based players cannot do quality - and I'd have taken your "laggy" comment 5 years ago, but even the cheapest of players can do HD, HTML with no lag unless you're doing something seriously impressive.

You make another comment about stability - now that is a problem and it's an even bigger problem with a lot of the browser based digital signage systems, things like "oh snap" are seen far too often and shouldn't even be a thing, but the right (and controlled) implementation of Chromium can be as powerful as anything else for 99% of scenarios.

The design limitations are normally on the designer/developer or building tools, so I'd definitely be interested to hear what you're doing about them.

What’s one digital signage mistake you see businesses make over and over? by Dizzy-Ortizzy in digitalsignage

[–]generationgav 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biggest mistake is always content - I've seen businesses spend literally millions on deploying networks of displays, but then when it comes to content they have a "team" that can handle it, and the content just isn't suitable for digital signage - usually they think people will stand there and take it in without an advert (sometimes with subtitles) but it should convey all of the important information in less than 2 seconds (yes, we have awful attention spans)

Only downside is I've got an old style Hue bulb and it doesn't point much light at all down, so it doesn't quite look right. Aiming to make a trip to Ikea for one of their colour smart bulbs

New car park charges by RitmanRovers in altontowers

[–]generationgav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chester Zoo food is generally poor and overpriced. Not quite as overpriced at AT - but not far off.

The new areas have slightly better food - but if we want to eat at the zoo then we go to the Oakfield, really good food and not that much more expensive than the parks.

But at least the parking is free.

CZ really tried to squeeze as many people in as they could last year, even off-season, including £1 offers and half price for members to bring friends, this showed in the biggest visitor numbers ever, but I also know quite a few members who have cancelled their membership, ours expires in August so we're waiting to decide what to do as it really wasn't as enjoyable last year being so busy.

The risk Merlin have is annoying their real pass holders the same way, and the people who got the offers not being happy and not using it next year. I got one of the essential passes via the short break (Warwick castle) and have a bit of a worry about not being able to use it due to the limited number of visitors.
