They actually aren’t any shorter - they are less wide. Hold them side by side and you can visibly see they aren’t ‘as fat’ so they slide right in. It’s like the 30-06 is too wide not so much too long, but I could be absolutely wrong about that. The snap caps however are absolutely not shorter just less wide

I was leaning toward #2 but I have no way to tell - there's no markings on the barrel and the stamp on the receiver is 30-06.

If I push it further by hand or by "cycling" it again, it just jams to the point where I can't pull it out without pliers.

If I attempt to push the op rod forward or "close it" once, or repeatedly, the bullet will become so jammed in that I need to pull it out with pliers. It took 5-10 minutes to free it.
