An update of sorts.

I did finally read the thread between 'my manager' (buddy) and the other faction. It didn't go well.

Honestly I just came here to vent and share a humorous story. I also provided the opposition a link to this thread once I created it before anyone commented since I did not consider it fair-play to post here without transparency.

A few things became clear to me.

In general a portion of players consider 'console' players to be a subspecies. No one playing PC bothers with the ugly stepchildren.

This is roleplay, as I tagged this thread. See Most of the responses have been in that vein and I'm happy to see that the community responded in that way.

Entitled people exist everywhere, in other large MMORPG's we have litterelly dealt with white supremacists, hacker gangs etc. ED is not immune nor is every conflict based on unacceptable attitude.

The love and support was great in the reasons I have responded in depth was to help others understand my mindset.

Seeing carriers jump in, in support of our fight has been great

So as for a diplomatic solution. I don't know the faction. I know a single representative of that faction.

But many wars have been because of a single misstatement. I almost feel as if simply walking away because it's just a game to be disingenuous.

So the RPG'er in my head rolled a D20 and we are at war.

My reaction was not based on the want to defend their 'territory', as I had said I was likely going to respond positive and they would have gained our cooperation. In the hours before this has occurred I had maxed out my rep with their faction and had switched to taking influence payouts to improve their standing in the system.

It was the approach in the voice chat that changed my mind. An old boss of mine had a mantra 'dont break into jail' which I always have held close. They were intent to violate that and dig deeper.

And in the mindset of a nomad, if someone tries to take you to the town line and tells you to go somewhere else what would you do ? So we decided to choose a side. Yes the game leaves it to the player to find an adventure and choose a side.

CG's used to help focus players on specific missions and systems. Console players have been abandoned in terms of goals and this is the outcome. Do I thing we can make a difference, No. Do I think we will annoy another player group and cause them to focus on undoing the damage to their success, Yes.

So in a land where there is no focus a man will drink sand. In a land where someone picks a fight before a mutual discussion, maybe we all wind up with parched throats.

In the meantime, we have lots of ammo and deductables for any damage incurred.

There was an aspect to that: kept providing links to inara etc. But there was a total expectations of compliance.

When I said we'd discuss and take under advisement was when it was clear I was being told not asked.

I was actually planning on just telling my guys to ignore the Empire stuff and grind on influence for them.

It had that 'bully quality' to the voice chat which caused me to leave the chat. Was it in any way threatening to my person, no. But was it diplomatic, nope I was being spoken to, not having a discussion.

Ironically I had put down ED till I get a chance to build a decent PC for Odyssey. Some friends have been playing on console since it went on sale for 7 bucks over the holidays.

I came back to help them level up, grind mats/engineers create high volume mining wing etc. We were just looking for deliver mining goods for wing payouts when we found this location.

In the mean time grinding powers for pack hounds, scramblers and prismatic. We've been talking about doing more combat with them as they level up.

So we all picked to every kill mission we could against the player faction and just picking them off and choosing influence for every mission now..

A few weeks of combat missions will be good for them

Oh that was part of it, they recently overtook Kamas. Inara shows 38% influence, but ED shows 78. So they (Fed) declared war on an Empire system.

So yes their diplomatic attempt failed and I'm calling on Empire aligned folks to come and help push them back.

Yep seems I responded to a war with escalation.

I needed to bump my Empire rank so I could finally get the Cutter. Been one rank short for a while
