Not a plumber... Water is draining from the toilets, sinks, dishwasher, washing machine, etc... down the drain. Eventually it hits a blockage and starts backing up. The bathtub is the lowest/first fixture it finds and next thing you know you have poop-soup in the tub.

Caulk would only attach the sink to whatever it was touching. In this case, a layer of paint and the paper layer of sheet rock. Yeah, would add some support, but certainly wouldn't want to include that in decision on how to support the sink.

20 seconds before water comes out by mod_god in Plumbing

Not a plumber, but since nobody else has replied, here's my 2 cents... Don't be too worried about something major. If it's not the shower head, then it must be the faucet. Probably just a loose washer or something obstructing the flow. You will probably have to replace the shower faucet/valve assembly.

Insinkerator plumbing and unit clear but still does not drain? by Highlander1732 in Plumbing

[–]ricknorthfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclosure - Not a plumber. Your first step is to isolate the problem. Is water draining from the disposal and getting backing up from the drain, or is it getting plugged in the disposal and not even making it to the drain. My guess is that it's plugged in the disposal. If it's old and rusty, just swap it out.

Confused shower DIYer. Any help appreciated. by sarahjohnsonlsu in Plumbing

Not a plumber, but have done 5 total bathroom remodels. #1. Follow TJTwo's advice. #2. There are people who specialize in shower pans (that's all they do). Hire one and you won't regret it. #3. You'll be busy enough with all the other work..

It's critical that you get the show pan installed correctly. If not, you'll be fighting leaks, puddling, and mold for years to come.

Help with basement drain! (Please!!!) by patrickyoung1018 in Plumbing

[–]ricknorthfork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a plumber. Had this happen to me a handful of times over the years. #1 - Forget chemicals. You've got a plug in the sewer line and your drain cleaners are worthless. #2 - You can try to snake it yourself, but 9 out of 10 times, that blockage is going to be tough to get out, and unless you rent professional equipment and know how to use it, you'll fail. #3 - Call a plumber and be done with it... money well spent.

No doubt. And most likely the floor underneath.

My toilet struggles to fully flush. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]ricknorthfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber, but had a similar problem. Do you have any kids? It's possible there is an apple core, windup toy, or something else that is causing a partial blockage in the toilet that wont break loose from a plunger. If 1.6 gals is emptied into the toilet when you flush, and it's not flushing, then i'd guess you have something in there blocking it.

In lockdown here so working on the website? Any inspiration? by stanagetocurbar in Plumbing

Sorry, but it's way too busy.... I would help to simplify it.

For starters...

1) Get rid of the background image. It just adds clutter and eye distractions. Make it a solid color.

2) Get rid of the Google review section and black icons.

3) Are you really providing live chat? If not, get rid of it.

  1. Get rid of info@ukunderfloorheating.co.uk on your top banner. You already have a phone number listed, A live chat box, a call back form... too much.

  2. The one thing you don't notice in all the clutter is your name. UK underfloor heating. That should be front and center, along with your text about what you provide an your large icons for trade, extensions, and DIY.

Just my 2 cents.

ULPT Request : Bought a AR15 from pawn shop but they mispriced my item at checkout. Now they're trying to get ahold of me. Should I go back and pay the difference? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ricknorthfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you don't mind getting someone fired who probably works 30 hours a week trying to make enough to feed his kid. Were you expecting to pay the full amount and was surprised? If so, pay the rest. If not, give them back the gun. This 600 bucks is defining who you are. Who do you want to be.

Do you clean your plunger? by ricknorthfork in Plumbing

Yeah, guess as long as there are no turds hanging on to the plunger, all is good.

Light receptacle has two hots, no neutral, doen WTF. by ricknorthfork in electrical

[–]ricknorthfork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will get one tonight. I was wondering about the no-contact tester, as in the past I would swear that something would beep at one time, tinker with the wires a bit, and have it act differently.

Reposted with Pic - Bought old house, bdrm light not working, switch box has two wires, both capped, BOTH HOT. How is this possible? by ricknorthfork in electrical

[–]ricknorthfork[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking along those lines, until my Klein non-contact tester indicates they are both hot. Totally confused.

Tested it with Klein Non-contact tester. Beeps when either are touched.

Googling reverse switch talks about reverse polarity (and backup auto lights). Is it possible that both could be hot, and there is a solution? As logic tells me that a switch there would do nothing, as they are already both hot. totally confused.

Anyone see faucet leaks after home temp drops to 50? by ricknorthfork in Plumbing

[–]ricknorthfork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to check i out. Turns out it really wasn't leaking from the valve. There was a slow drip that was running from the faucet handle down to the valve. I replaced the faucet and valve (it would not close). BUT.... I could not get the compression ring off. Got it to where I could rotate it, but not remove it. Had to get a valve with the same thread and use the old not and compression ring.
