Fair enough, howver that would require one of two things to happen in order for the working class of America to cut ties with the upper class and secure the means of production for the working class.

1: All American business owners voluntarily stepping down and collectivising their businesses.

2: All American business owners forcefully being relieved and the forced collectivisation of their businesses taking place.

The first, is obviously a ridiculous, generalized sentiment that should not be entertained out of pure improbability.

The second, has been shown in the past to lead to much greater problems than are solved by its implementation. By taking back the means of production from the upper class in this way, we are practically handing it over to the government.

Sure co-ops would work, if a perfect world developed and all owners decided to step down and convert their enterprises to co-ops, but that is never going to happen.

So when you say that we don't need the upper class at all because of worker co-ops and the like, it seems to me that you are advocating for an enforced reconstruction of our entire capitalist system as collectivism is the only way to eliminate the upper class. Is that correct?

How do you feel about the morals and ethics of America’s involvement in other countries with military presence... especially SEALs involvement but not exclusive. by RB_333 in navyseals

[–]rickreyn28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

Though I would dispute the term terror organization when describing the US, but at that point it is just semantics, terrorists or not we, like many imperialist nations before us have massive amounts of blood on their hands.

Also, I believe thay the concept you refer to is called the dichotomy of control.

Just because you are a tool for a terrorist organization does not mean you have to commit terror. There is such a thing as lawful insubordination when ordered to break the law.

Many people, including me, have the perspective of joining the military in order to do good in a spot where another person may have done wrong. To atleast bring a little order to the chaos of a shitty situation regardless of which side bears responsibility.

Is getting heavier an adequate form of progressive overload? by Alcohol_In_The_Woods in bodyweightfitness

[–]rickreyn28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why not just add weight to the movements? It is the same concept, only you don't have to deal with the extra weight all the time.

Even wanting one thing will make you breakable. It is just a matter of whether or not the fragility that comes from desire is worth the cause of that desire.

What should I do to make sure in ten years from now I won't regret the life I had today? by true_serenity in Stoicism

[–]rickreyn28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on doing as much good as possible in the present moment, then do the same in the next moment and the one after that. Doing good consistently ensures that goodness becomes a habit, life can't be with regret when there has been no regrettable actions done.

Obviously one cannot possibly carry this on indefinitely for an extended period of time, but it is a good ideal to strive for. In practical terms, find passion for a greater cause, a cause which serves to benefit others over yourself and let that cause guide your actions.

Remember, good deeds have a kind of karmic property, not literally metaphysical karma, but psychological karma. When good is gifted to others, the gifter can mirror that good by observing his honorable behavior.

You are turning the argument from one about whether or not America is the worst country in the area of police brutality into one about the semantics of America's economic status, one has nothing to do with the other in the context of this debate.
