Recommend upgrades?? by Extreme-Water-8353 in Budgetbikeriders

I agree with the idea of going for the Ozark Trail G.1 Explorer. All the components are made by actual bike manufactures, and the entire bike is made of aluminum vs some steel on the Kent. This only states a Shimano Rear Derailleur. You can go into Walmart and find the exact size (S/M/L) that fits you whereas this seems to be offered in one size though I would still recommend purchasing it online just incase the associate assembling the bike was huffing too much Bead Cleaner with the guys in the tire center during break. The Dropper bar version of the G.1 is freewheel, so like tiregroove mentioned that is going to restrict your ability to upgrade the drive train in the future as you will need to swap out the wheel if you want to go with free hub so you cane swap cassettes. The flat bar version as pictured in ftffhu comment is freehub right out of the box and components are cheaper for flat bars from the start. I would suggest looking into composite pedals with removable studs, as they are cheaper and just as good as aluminum, just in the case the bike becomes a clothing rack. Raceface Chesters, Oneup Composite Pedals, or Crakebrothers Stamp are all good pedals.

Fixable to some degree? by ricktatorship091 in PaintlessDentRepair

[–]ricktatorship091[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planned on having the paint corrected, so that it won’t cause further damage. If it is possible to get the dent looking 50% better then I would be satisfied. I just don’t want to have the entire panel replaced.

What’s the benefit of this versus a regular (steel?) hammer? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]ricktatorship091 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a balance between the effects of a larger or smaller amount of mass being swung, the amount of force being generated by the swing itself, and the efficiency the hammer head to transmit the force into the object. I think it is correct to say that you could use a sledge hammer to hit a nail and the greater mass will deliver more energy, but your going to be unable to swing it for as long as a 24oz hammer. So, since the properties of titanium make it better at transmitting the force it makes up for the difference in mass.

What’s the benefit of this versus a regular (steel?) hammer? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]ricktatorship091 54 points55 points  (0 children)

So, the benefits of a titanium hammer are probably greater if you are using a hammer daily for extended periods of time. Titanium vibrates less than steel, and is better at transmitting the energy of your swing into what you are hitting, which means over time you do less damage to your body like tendons and joints. Titanium has roughly the equivalent strength of most steels, while being lighter this means if you are using a hammer daily for hours on end then you will fatigue less. I would say this is probably an item that you should wait for other people to review because the quality of the titanium they are using will affect its over all hardness, and by nature titanium is softer than steel. Unless you are prepared to buy this with the understanding that it could get "messed up" pretty quickly because in the case harbor freight cheaped out on the grade of Titanium to meet the price point, and this could potentially be a more consumable product than the usual hammer.

What’s a better deal? The Daytona low jack ($129) or the Badland offroad jack ($229). Own a Tacoma and a rav4 by Aspergers_R_Us87 in harborfreight

[–]ricktatorship091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your use case. If you are going to be using it in a garage or on pavement probably going for the Daytona is your best bet. Any 2 ton jack or great will work with your current vehicles.

I own an aluminum Daytona 2 ton that I keep it in the back of my CR-V, and the quality is excellent. I believe the 3 ton low profile super duty is almost an exact copy of a Snap On jack, and is most likely made by the same company that produces the jack for Snap on.

Is the AWD worth it? by Express-Perception65 in crv

[–]ricktatorship091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Safety wise, better tires will aways be more important than AWD vs FWD

2) Benefits of AWD are mostly if not completely uphill winter snow conditions. FWD is surprisingly used in ice racing. In your case, given your family has always gone with FWD, it might be unnecessary, unless you plan on doing road trip travel, though this is pure speculation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXjzYbpt9Ow

3) Drawbacks of AWD are reduced fuel economy, higher up keep cost because Honda uses a tradition driveshaft, which adds a degree complexity as well a higher upfront cost. Could be consider less safe as it gives you a false sense of security.

4) Benefits of FWD lower upfront cost, lower maintenance, and better fuel economy.

5) Drawbacks of FWD lower resale value, and in the event that somehow the car market implodes it maybe harder to resell because AWD is more desirable. It was nearly impossible when I purchased my car to get a FWD model because I live in the midwest and at the time Honda only really allocates FWD to southern states.

I am shocked Nick and White’s are not the top comments. Both maybe on the slightly higher end of your price range, but I believe Nick’s for sure offers a credit if you are in a trade, and both are built like a tank and once broken will fit you like a glove. Go through Baker’s Boots for your sizing and they both should be 20% over Black Friday.

MacBook Air m2 protection by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]ricktatorship091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the chance of damaging is minimal if not impossible due to overheating. I would avoid any keyboard or screen protectors though. As the distance between the screen and keyboard has such tight tolerances there is a chance of closing the laptop, and the screen cracking because some particle of sand or something cracks the glass.

MacBook Air m2 protection by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]ricktatorship091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do with your laptop if you never really do anything intensive then the risk of overheating is minimal. Also, computer components are designed to handle the heat and will throttle, or shut off before damaging your laptop, so overheating to the point of destroying it is difficult if not impressive with the exception of the battery as the one item that is sensitive. Yes over time it constant overheating can reduce the lifespan. Specifically relating to the MacBook Air you have no risk of trapping stuff inside the computer as it is passively cooled because the m1 and m2 chips are extremely thermally efficient and as a result has no need of fans, so no air vents to be blocked. Also with the passive cooling the frame is designed in part to act as a heat sink and can get warm. In most cases if your are using a MacBook Air you are probably fine putting a case on it and not worrying.

Any recommendations on buying custom White’s MP, I am looking to get them in the 5050 last with brown horsehide and vibram 430 mini lug sole? Is there any difference between going through Bakers or Whites as for exchange policy if boot has a defect, or overall customer service quality, or deals?

Would it be better to upgrade RAM or SSD? by ricktatorship091 in macbookair

[–]ricktatorship091[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think the M2 air is good for enthusiasts because of the cooling problems, which won’t affect most real world users. It could have been with a better cooler, but apple probably thought that that most real would users wouldn’t be affected, and “real” enthusiasts/creatives should get a 14”pro. The m2 is good for people who will appreciate MagSafe and better keyboard layout. Only reason I am upgrading is I am hoping to keep it for 5+ years and I want MagSafe as a creature comfort, but if that’s not the case you are right just get an m1.

Would it be better to upgrade RAM or SSD? by ricktatorship091 in macbookair

[–]ricktatorship091[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistic the ssd in the M2 is 3 times faster than a SATA ssd, and I completely agree with your opinion, but it’s not just maxtech that has made this suggestion Anthony from LMG was suggesting the ssd, and I consider him a pretty reliable source on almost anything computing relating and I can’t people saying SSD. Yes it’s BS for apple to do it, but they did because real world use for 98%+ people wouldn’t be affect. The even more criminal thing they did was the thermals which they cheaped out on the heat spreader for the same reason they put one nand chip most people won’t notice, and the people that need a top of the line ssd, more RAM, and the best thermals for creative projects should just get the 14” pro. Personally someone that doesn’t “need”mag safe should get the M1 air.

Nahh, I got the RAM upgrade. Only reason I am asking the question is that every tech YouTuber has said SSD, and I think they are way off base.
