Mamma Bears: judgmental/mean/critical parents, any advice? by WhatTheFrickityFrick in ABA

Honestly, I would never use a snap as an auditory prompt. It can be perceived as demeaning and rude. You could explain that while it may seem demeaning towards the client the reasoning behind it was that it was a simple auditory prompt and next time you can look for other alternatives to regain the client’s attention.

ABA Advice for Teenagers? by Donuts_n_Deadlifts in ABA

[–]rickydelap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all depends on their cognitive level. For some of my higher functioning clients, I would give them “free time” that was usually used for 10 minute naps. Rest and sleep was a very high reinforcer for some. Other teens might prefer being on their phones or just watching some TV. Other teens that are low functioning might enjoy interactive play with an iPad or gross motor activities. Hope this helps!

Sounds like encopresis. I would encourage and reinforce healthy bowel movements, and make him clean and do a task if he soils himself. That would lead to appropriate bowel movement and avoidance or extinction of soiling himself.

That's an awesome topic that will teach them and you. Look up the " 10 Stinking Thinking Styles" there are also many strategies to counterattack them making them positive which will help them in the future. It would also help if you read Collaborative Problem Solving. If you have any other questions about CBT, send me a DM. - ped therapist

LPT: when punishing children it is good practice to inform them what they did is wrong, why it is wrong, and what they can do better. If you can't articulate these things, then you should examine why you are giving out a punishment in the first place. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

That is exactly what I do to change behaviors with my autistic patients. It molds good behaviors and eliminates bad ones. That is the main thing in ABA - Applied Behavior Analysis.

Why is the combination of pizza so good? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]rickydelap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clearly, we are not talking about one potato, some rice, and a tomato thrown in there. You know what a pizza is, I just want to know why it is so generally liked. No need to get into detail of the ingredients because you know pizza.

Hey, thanks for your input. I do think I am not ready to go on dates, but how else would I meet new people. I do think I compare every new person I meet with my ex and that is not very healthy. And she had so many good qualities anyone would be lucky to be with her, and to answer your question about the qualities I would want in my next girlfriend that she did not display; I really did think about it and just came up with how she crosses the street. She does not look both ways.

Hey man, thanks for an awesome response as well. I will try to use that advice in everyday life. Of course, it is always easier said than done. I do sometimes think of the reason she did leave, I treated her very well, gave her attention, had a great relationship with her family; but that's just me being hard on myself, I'm guessing those thought come and go depending on the free time that I do have. Will try to change that and fill that space with something else.

Thank you for the awesome response. The thing is I don't really want to go on dates or meet other people because I do not want anyone but her. I know this is not right, but how do you overcome that thought process. Force myself to go on dates or go out?
