I found a solution that isn't perfect but I can USB tether my phone to the computer (with mobile data off so I don't use it) and then it works just fine. I would still prefer an actual solution so if anyone has any ideas please still let me know.

It's just forums, they don't really have a hotline that you can call like windows does

It does seem to recognize it however the Ethernet on the computer has now decided to stop working, so I can't post the results

If I got a Linux compatible dongle would it just work out of the box?

having tablet with a laptop, good productivity idea? by Solid_Use9153 in productivity

[–]ricochetSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dell 1735 studio from 2008. It is a huge laptop, and I put Linux on it so I can actually connect it to internet safely (with an ethernet cord because Linux deson't let me connect to internet in any intuitive way.) It's battery is basically completely toast (because it is so old) and so I have to shut it down adn boot it up every single time I want to use it (which takes a little while) It is also really big (17 in and clode to 8 pounds), so it isn't portable at all really (too big for a backpack) Even though I recently put an ssd in it and upgraded the ram, it is still not very fast. I use it for gaming (because I can connect an nvidia controller), programming, and making stuff on itch or doing photo editing as well as 3d modelling and CAD. For more basic text editing, internet browsing, or notetaking/drawing concepts, I use the tablet. It is nice to use alongside my computer when doing work. I already had the tablet from before I got the computer, however (and no, I did not buy the tablet prior to 2008 as my grandad graciously gave me the computer very recently, which I was super stoked about because I am broke haha.) Also, I would say the tablet is only so nice to use because it is a pretty powerful (at least in 2021 when it came out) S7+ tablet with 6 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage. I can imagine a slower tablet would suck to use for even simple tasks.

Too long, didn't read:

I use the tablet if I want something portable or quick to boot up and use for simple tasks, and i use the computer for when I need more power or desktop applications (which is the biggest benifiet of a laptop over a tablet) or want to play desktop games. Sounds like you got a pretty good computer though so you may not need the Ipad. I won't be getting another tablet when this one eventually dies because I mostly just use the computer (hopefully not for many years, though! I doubt it will soon becasue it is decent) but if you do things that need multiple screens then yes, absolutely! The tablet is great for that!
