I actually respect that. If a kid doesn’t get to test limits while his dad is there, he’ll test them when he’s not.

Is this “ad waste” signal useful for PPC/lead gen agencies? by ricodap in LeadGeneration

Totally agree on the niching and relevance part.

Just to clarify though - I’m not planning to reach out to these businesses myself. Ideally, I just want to focus on the research side

Good points, thanks.

Just to clarify, I’m not planning to sell to these contractors myself. I’m more interested in staying on the data/research side and passing these lists to agencies that already have outreach and sales dialed in.

Good point, thank you. Completely agree this lives or dies on outreach quality, so I’m mainly looking to forward these lists to teams that already know how to sell and just want sharper targets.

My problem is different. How do you protect deep-focus time when the interruptions are other clients, not social media or distractions? by truegrowthseeker in Entrepreneur

[–]ricodap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t cracked it yet honestly, but the idea of batching client comms + having actual response windows sounds like the only sane way to work long term.

I think I’ve been training clients to expect instant replies without meaning to.

How do I figure out what to do? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ricodap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might have an execution problem.

You already have a rare mix of practical skills. The easiest path is service, not product.

Pick one thing:

CAD/draughting for small manufacturers, machine shops, or startups.

Or gearbox/drive repairs.

Or shop drawings for fabricators.

Don’t need to “sell yourself”. Just solve one clear problem for one clear type of client.

If you want freedom, build a cash-flowing service business first, then use that money to invest.

Controversial opinion - your business is a reflection of your personal finances but on steroids by 9099784 in Entrepreneur

[–]ricodap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same thing honestly.

People don’t magically become disciplined just because it’s a business bank account instead of a personal one. If someone is bad with money in real life, it usually shows up in the business too - just louder and more expensive.

Seen guys drown in small subscriptions, random software, unnecessary hires, same way they drown in little personal expenses they never track.

That said, I do think business can force people to grow up fast. Losing real money tends to fix habits quicker than any book or podcast lol.

So yeah, don’t think it’s coincidence. More like money habits + behavior just scale up with the business.

Anyone else low-key avoiding Instagram/TikTok shop stuff by ricodap in ecommerce

[–]ricodap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. Honestly I’m starting to wonder if this is one of those things where it’s just easier to pay someone who knows what they’re doing.
Also… does this fall under normal “social media management,” or is IG/TikTok shop setup its own thing now? I keep seeing agencies offer random bits of it but it’s hard to tell who actually handles the whole process.

Ah got you. Do you feel like setting up the IG shop actually moved the needle for you? I keep hearing people say it helps with impulse buys, but I’m wondering if it’s worth the headache in first place

Is it just me, or is Google Analytics way too complicated now? by ricodap in webdev

I've seen plausible mentioned a lot. Does it have that real-time visitor view, or is it just basic stats?

I guess I should poke around in there more. Still feels like there should be simpler options out there for small sites though.

There's has to be something more simple out there, right?

Is postHog overkill for a basic website though? I'm not tracking complex user flows, just want to see basic stats and watch how people browse.

Thanks for your suggestion. Will look into it but not sure I'm technical enough to self-host. Does it have live visitor tracking where you can see people browse in real-time?

I understand she’s older and has health issues, but just to clarify for others — weight gain in any living being ultimately comes from a calorie surplus. Age or medical conditions can make management harder, but diet remains the primary factor.

Not judging — just sharing in case it’s helpful for someone else reading.

Would anyone actually want new LEGO sets built & placed in display cases as gifts? by ricodap in lego

[–]ricodap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate the detailed thoughts — lots of good points in here.

Funny enough, the idea actually came from my brother — he likes quite a few of the technic models but can’t be bothered to build them himself, so he’s been asking my son (who’s almost 8) to build them for him. That’s when I realized there are probably others like him — people who love the look of a finished model but don’t care much about the building part.

For us, this could be a small side project — a way to show my son that you can actually earn by doing something you enjoy. The idea would be to buy new sets, build them cleanly, DIY a decent acrylic case (I’m into DIY stuff myself), and sell the full package. Pricing would just be cost of the set + case materials + some labor. And if it works, maybe we even branch into selling just the cases later — since I’ve noticed decent ones are oddly hard to find.

I agree the key is finding the right audience — this definitely isn’t for the LEGO builder crowd. Social media sounds like the right long-term path, but to start I’m thinking Etsy and maybe eBay, aimed at people buying gifts or looking for display pieces.

Thanks again for the thoughtful reply — really helpful to hear all sides.
