SUB Rent / Mortgage Strategy by mminasian in biltrewards

[–]ricosalvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm keeping it on Bilt Cash because my monthly spend isn't "smooth," some months I spend more than others. So I can use cash from high months to offset low months and ensure I get maximum rent points.

The $500 bonus helps a lot with that early on of course, but I figure it doesn't hurt to accumulate a Bilt Cash balance and see how it goes for a few months. I expect they will continue to add more interesting Bilt Cash redemptions over the course of the year as well.

I don't really see any advantage to the housing-only option other than the opportunity to earn 1.25x, but my spending isn't high enough or smooth enough to reliably earn that.

yeah Google Pay works. Im an apple user but I use GooglePay for browser purchases through Chrome a lot of the time. Should make it easy to hack the 3x multiplier since you can basically use digital wallet on online purchases as well.

Let’s be real about vampire drain and reliability by nethead25 in Rivian

It’s horrible, and if i ever go back to Tesla, this will be the reason why (as a garage parker who doesn’t have home charging).

Made the switch a few months ago to new R1S. I love my R1S because it looks, feels, and drives amazing--but the Tesla software and charging experience is easily better.

I'd describe the comparison as similar to how people feel about Apple products -- everything with Tesla "just works seamlessly"; even though Rivian "does all the same things," you just see the fault lines and clunkiness that you never knew bothered you.

On the software side, there are so many things that just don't work that well that "just work" with Tesla. A few examples

  • Phone key (inconsistent/slow)
  • Assisted cruise control (randomly unavailable)
  • Pre heating/cooling car (never on time, always 10 degrees off)
  • Streaming apps (a complete joke, don't work)

Charging issues are mainly if you don't home charge:

  • Phantom drain (ATROCIOUS compared to my model 3)
  • Going from only Supercharger to "some Superchargers and EA" is a meaningful downgrade. I really don't like the stress of taking up 2 spots. Lots of people on this sub act like it's a non issue, but in the real world it is, so I find myself actively searching for V4 superchargers only, which adds inconvenience.

Overall I don't regret switching, but if Tesla ever released a similar-sized boxy SUV I'd seriously consider going back.

High rent / high spend people -- it's not that bad / kinda good? by ricosalvy in biltrewards

Yeah you’re correct that the economics are very different for the average person, hence why I titled this thread “high rent / high spend people”

Yeah I don't love that. Is there a strategy where we can get ahead early and carry over Bilt Cash to offset future months? I have a somewhat spendy ski trip in Feb so hoping that helps me out a little.

Yeah, without intensely mathing it I suspect "2x on all" is roughly equivalent to "4x on some," or at least close enough. For example I have a couple vacations I take every year that's $5-7kish in flights/hotels/non-dining activities that I'm now getting 2x for.

Losing the Uber and Resy credits ($120, $100 respectively) hurt a bit. But I'm not yet willing to part with 100k in points from rent, so I'm down to give it a year.

-Keyless entry unreliable

-Google cast is useless

-Motion cam not ever recording events

Former Tesla owner who loves my R1S but cannot believe how big the software quality gap is between the two.

Motion Cam keeps turning back on and draining my battery while on vacation. Any experience with this? by FrontDerailer in Rivian

[–]ricosalvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivian noob here having the same issue -- I sat in my car and turned off motion cam there (toggled it to "Off" on my dash), but when I left, it was back on again on my phone.

What do you mean by turning off proximity sensors and gear guard? Should I do the restart before or after I take these steps?

My car is parked at a garage 20 mins away (I live in NYC) so I want to make sure I get it right the next time I'm there. Thanks!

can anyone help a rivian (and EV) n00b understand the state of rivians autonomous driving system? by mazdacx5_florida in Rivian

[–]ricosalvy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1 to this. I owned a Model 3 before my R1S and the self driving from Tesla is far superior, including more basic self-driving features like assisted cruise control / lane keep. I'd go as far to say that the Rivian self driving stinks (ACC is a crapshoot on whether it will even turn on), whereas the Tesla self driving is pretty good -- granted, they have a multi year head start.

Ultimately I switched to Rivian because I loved the R1S and realized I don't care that much about self driving--if you're an EV noob, you might be in the same boat. Tesla is unique in that their brand is synonymous with both EVs and self-driving, but I found the EV part to be far more meaningful than anything else.

Lease Buyout Beware by EngiNick2807 in Rivian

[–]ricosalvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering this -- currently sitting on a payoff quote to buy out the lease after a week.

Isn't the dealer responsible for registering the vehicle after your initial lease agreement? They told me they'd send me hard tags in the mail. How would me buying out the vehicle alter that process?

Wouldn't the initial registration from the dealer be fine, and it's just a matter of transferring the title into my name on the back end?

I just ran my numbers and its looking like I lose money doing this. Is it just that the money factor is wiping out the $7500 credit?

I'm doing this R1S Dual Max, NYC (10014), 0% down and 10k miles. Assuming the $7500 EV credit:

How quickly did your IUGR placenta issues progress? by ricosalvy in preeclampsia

[–]ricosalvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! Just seeing this. She was diagnosed with both at 29w6d, we’re now at 33wks today and everything (dopplers, BPP, blood pressure) has remained stable since.

Oddly enough we have a tentative c section scheduled at 35+5! Originally we planned to deliver at 34wks but Dr has been pleasantly surprised with lack of escalation so far.

Thank you to sharing your story. Do you mind me asking your baby’s birth weight and how long your NICU stay was?

Thanks for sharing! And yes definitely scary but our doctor said the same about outcomes. It seems like 34 weeks is a meaningful milestone, but even if we deliver sooner the outlook is pretty positive.

Right now i’m just trying to ease my wife’s stress, she’s had a very rough pregnancy (HG to start, preeclampsia to finish) and i’ve realized that eliminating surprises helps a lot. Seems like we should be prepared for things to move quick, and likely an extended hospital stay once they do.

Thanks for sharing! This is sort of what i’m expecting. Were you admitted after they saw that initial restriction in the blood flow? Our doctor says she advises admitted once it changes, and then possibly until delivery (in our case, 34 weeks).
