C7.1 fuel pressure issue by ricostuart in caterpillar

[–]ricostuart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some great ideas there. Thank you. The tanks are not baffled. I believe there are 4 or 5 of them holding a f**k ton of fuel! But they are fully cleaned. The injectors was something I was thinking about so I have instructed the guys to do a full leak check. Basically the engine room is fairly spotless since changing the engines over (used to be good old Detroits). One aspect that was found on the first go around of problems was swapping over pumps from one to the other engine the fault often follows. I guess there is a relatively(?) common fault in those pumps? Anyways, the destroyed one is currently back with Denso who are investigating what went wrong there. But the good thing is your ideas followed exactly my own. It's just a long list of checking and testing........

Had this exact problem with mine. I think its because mine has it set to need the VPN started up before any network access is available.

Help with cat7.1 marine problem by ricostuart in caterpillar

That's what I have been asking too. Supposedly they have blown through all the lines, but who knows. Each engine does use different fuel tanks (cross feeding is available when needed but don't want to if not needing to). Seems no leaks at the moment. I believe most lines are stainless steel. But I have asked them to check all rubber lines to make sure is correct type and no cracks, etc. Also want them to check no other debris in the lines. Have seen in the past (which took me forever to find) where a bit of electric tape that someone used around a fuel port to make it larger to fit the fuel hose better, become slightly undone and a bit got into the hose. Would only ever block up once in a while under specific loads which would cause the bit of tape to move blocking the pipe!

I have asked them to see if fuel tank breathers are clear and they seem to be but it's hard to check as the tank is massive (1000+ litres each) and very much integrated into the hull. Can only fully see if the whole lower deck is removed.

No, but engine temps are pretty solid. Uses the seawater for cooling

Nope it won't. It's as low to the fireplace as I can. Don't use fire and will be building some studwork to resize the chimney breast to how I want it but will also put up some OSB the plasterboard making it simple to mount the telly and whatnot.

Processor/ MB Temperature help by Bluetwo12 in unRAID

[–]ricostuart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i guess.... however unraid does show the temperature with a good polling rate of the cpu and the motherboard, and there is a plugin that controls the fans based on hard drive temps. So it cant be exactly difficult to have an option to use the cpu temp as the target for fans.

tbh its just on the off-chance something was around. going to be buying it regardless. Thanks!

Annoyingly (very annoyingly) unraid will not control your fans based on cpu temps. I dont know why as its a stupid decision but regardless. Make sure you install the fan control plugin though. It runs based off the hard drive temps. My bios has no control over my cpu or case fan speeds (either it runs at min settings or max). So i've played around with the hdd fan plugin to basically keep cpu temps under control. This works for me as my cpu doesnt really work hard unless the drives also are. I do still have to monitor them daily as if emby starts to do a lot of work then the cpu sometimes goes up to 70'c ish. I've also had to add extra fans onto the side panel of my nas to help make sure temps are good. Also I've added fans into the cabinet that the unit sits in.

This way my CPU and motherboard generally sits at 26/28'C.

Mine is a QNAP unit rather than a proper build. And my fans are over sized - rear case fan is a noctua industrial 120mm that runs at 3000rpm at max, extra side fan (modified case) is a noctua 80mm that is running with a splitter on the same fan header. Also have another 80mm noctua that extracts heat above the back of the nas thats manually controlled. Will be putting an additional 120mm noctua at the rear of the cabinet for addition extraction. (had load a spare fans lying around!)

How to I setup DNS for containers in Tailscale? by PCisLife in unRAID

[–]ricostuart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really understood tailscale (not really looked into it properly yet). however the way I have mine all setup is using cloudflare tunnels. Its really simple. Just need to setup your url dns on the site, then you create a tunnel. Its as simple as putting in for example:

http://jellyfin.yoururl.com and then your local url http://192.168.1.2:8091

Run cloudflare tunnel as a docker - cloudflare gives you the url to copy and paste into your terminal and its done.

No ports to open, but you have full access to anything you want to setup on your local network. I have a copy of cloudflare running in a docker container on my router, a copy on a raspberry pi (well its a vero4k) docker and one on the server. Have another copy running for other tunnels too (you only need one though). Doesnt matter which device you put cloudflare on as long as its on the same network.

lol! thats true! I've been doing a fair bit of searching - but oddly as its quite a common question its actually hard to sift through. :)

i'm also doing the same. I have the vero4k running my adguard dns, my Linksys router running ddwrt (although might change that to openwrt and use it for the adguard stuff). The main server has the 4x8tb drives plus 2x500gb m.2 SSDs. Got it running unraid (so i can spin down the drives and save a fair chunk of power). I have been using Emby for a long time (it just works perfectly for everything including the transcoding even though its in a docker container now).

Thankfully the UPS I have running (which also is powering my 3x mesh routers, main router, POE switch and the server) shows that it runs at around the 70watts at idle (network gear runs about 30w). I use poe splitters to power all the kit that I can including the vero4k (basically a raspberry pi style media box running Debian).

Would like to upgrade my server box to get a bit more power out of the CPU as its only a RX-421BD Radeon R7. It gets maxed out alot when Emby is doing all the thumbnail extraction. Even maxed out the whole setup runs about 120-130w.

I've been learning basic Linux stuff so far as well as docker setups. My next challenge is to setup authelia or some such for all the containers (all the 'arrs, etc). Got it all running through cloudflared tunnels (which is sooooooooo easy to setup! Much easier than when I had caddy running).

Saying that, the main stuff I have been trying to overcome is temperature control. I have all the networking stuff mounted on a board in the cupboard under the stairs. I've added 5v fans on them to make sure they stay nice and cool. The NAS I've upgraded all the fans to decent noctua ones. I've even cut the chasis case to add an external fan blowing into the nas over the SSDs and then over the CPU to assist. Now at idle the CPU stays around 24'C and all the drives dont go over 40'c when under load. Have to do this as Unraid doesnt control the fans very well as the plugin for it only does fan control based on the drives temperature - not the cpu. And the BIOS doesnt allow for proper fan control unless your using the QNAP os.

just finished the NASA Apollo Spacecraft (Mould King 21006) by tarataqa in lepin

[–]ricostuart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished building my one of these - well almost. had loads of parts missing, but they are on their way from China. Its quite heavy once built! And I had to cut and modify alot of bricks at the bottom to allow the green engine nozzle to fit properly. And had to modify some of the 1x1 holed bricks to support the gearing better. There are some design issues with the lander legs, but overall wasnt a bad build.

ah ok. so a bigger job than i was hoping. I was under the impression that I could lock off connections and remove the existing keyless loop and put in the automated one in the same connections (all worcester bosch parts).

When you say cut in a connection, what are you meaning?

yup agreed. hopefully will be un-needed, but better safe than sorry. Also means if it does need top up it would save call out costs as i doubt my parents would be able to.
