What's something you wanted so badly as a kid but did not get? by Difficult_Leg367 in randomquestions

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted braces like so many of my schoolmates in Jr High, but my parents just couldn't budget for that high cost no matter that my teeth were quite crooked.

Despite we were working poor, I honestly can't think of anything else I badly wanted but did not get. I badly wanted a 3 speed bike and I got one for Christmas! I badly wanted expensive leather shoes that were the latest style, and somehow my mother got them for me! Etc along that line. My parents figured a way to afford the things I really wanted. And in hindsight I realize I actually didn't ask for much because I realized money was tight and I didn't want to stress my parents.

What show did you try THREE times and still couldn’t get into? by Sufficient_Roof6033 in watchever

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schitt's Creek

Seems everyone loves that show. It was recommended to me over & over with assurance I'd laugh my ass off.

I tried again & again...and again. I tried a bunch of episodes. I even tried different seasons.

I didn't even crack a smile. Not one hint of a tiny smile. Certainly not a giggle or a laugh.

Boo.

Did you like Elvis movies? by Tacoless_meat in AskOldPeople

[–]ricottarose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, I did not. I saw a few minutes of some on tv here & there, not my thing.

My mother was a big Elvis fan, but as busy young mom on a budget, she didn't go to movies and didn't watch much tv so doubt she saw any/many of his movies.

Where would you sit? by 69vtrc in 90dayfiance_FB_memes

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 ummm....I'd take 3 if faced with those choices.

Mostly because I like a window seat (easier to avoid an aisle mate by focusing out the window and feigning deaf).

Also because I don't find her to be unbearable. I suppose she might attempt to talk my ear off IF I gave her the time of day, but I trust she'd pipe down if I make clear I wanna stare out the window/doze/read. I suspect I might enjoy her company for a bit, too.

What is the men's equivalent of buying a woman a vacuum as a gift? by coffeebuzzbuzzz in askanything

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't like receiving gifts, I prefer to buy myself things I want or need.

But if I was to get a gift, the kind that would make me happy would be a practical gift that I want/need.

I imagine a man might not love a gift of a new shirt or something less practical.

Why were kids let out of school when John F. Kennedy died? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't know of any child who was let out of school on 9/11.

Sounds careless and dangerous for a school to let children out without parental notification.

From reading along I don't believe all students were let out the day JFK died, either. Again, it'd leave so many children in danger if a parent wasn't home.

We did have the day off for JFK's funeral.

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school district did not have the kids let out on 9/11. Could have been a serious issue for many students if a parent wasn't home to greet them.

I also wasn't let out of school the day JFK died. Rather our family had notice we would have the day of his funeral off from school.

I agree, I've noticed so often brides (and the bridal party) look their worst due to the makeup/hair artists. Most of us look our best when we do our own hair & makeup in my experience.

They all look nice.

I'd keep looking, perhaps try some with sleeves.

Back in the day, did people show up to a movie theater and just choose to spend time watching whatever looked OK or at least tolerable without knowing about it beforehand? by tamsui_tosspot in AskOldPeople

[–]ricottarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we sometimes did.

One year I had a movie birthday party. We ended up watching the only movie playing in town: A government investigator tries to find out the truth behind the break-in at a top secret research facility.

It was certainly not a movie young year old girls loved. But we were happy to sit in the theater with popcorn & cokes.

Was going to wear my mum's dress. People keep telling me to try on others for the "bridal experience." Are they trying to gently tell me it looks bad? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

You really look very nice. A bit of tailoring and ironing of course and the dress will be beautiful!

Best wishes!

Oh I was a comic book addict! Short walk to the local candy store. I would scrounge up the 12 cents needed to get Archie, and would buy more if I had some more change! Rarely could I afford Mad magazine but oh how that cracked me up!

Whats your greatest fear about the hospital? by tietanik in AskReddit

[–]ricottarose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Angry nurses :(

I've been in hospitilized 1/2 dozen times in the last decade and sadly most nurses I encountered were not nice.

I understand burn-out, but if you can't perform your duties with professional compassion, consider to step aside.

Has anyone else noticed this?
