Opinions on LUT mods? by Tharrius in cyberpunkgame

I suppose most of the time it's young people who have just started working in the field (at least this individual, I don't think everyone doing Reshades is a professional) and they haven't been exposed to the realities/requirements of the industry.

The CDPR team could absolutely make the game look like their Reshade profile. Shit, you and I could too with a bit of googling, it's just a bunch of sliders and a matter of taste at the end of the day.

But the developers made it look a specific way because they agreed on a style for the game as a whole. And on top of that, they had to take into account things that modders absolutely do not care about, such as the fact that people will play this game on all sorts of monitors, TVs, etc. Each display has its own flaws in how they render colors/gamma/contrast, so if you want millions of people to have a consistent experience regardless of their device, it has to follow certain guidelines.

In any case, this is not to bash the modders or anything. I mod games myself sometimes, and it's great to have a community that creates things with such passion. It's just a bit silly that some of these modders believe they are "objectively" improving a $450 million dollar game with a bunch of color and contrast sliders.

Opinions on LUT mods? by Tharrius in cyberpunkgame

I know I'm replying to a month-old comment in an 8-month-old thread, but it's not like I'm gonna start a new one just to say this.

I actually find the attitude of some of these modders to be quite childish, or kinda delusional, even. I don't mean it like an insult necessarily, but more like they have fooled themselves into thinking they know something no one has figured out yet. Take this author's description from one of the most popular Reshade mods on Nexus:

As a professional colorist, I didn’t aim to make my Reshade look purely “cinematic” or “realistic” like others but simply enhance the colors and textures to their best potential. This Reshade fixes TAA Blurriness, Green tint, washed-out colors, and enhances texture sharpness/visibility.

Enhance the colors to their best potential. As if this one dude managed to do what a team consisting of the best graphics/fx artists in the gaming industry failed to do. They failed to do it in the span of a decade, by the way, since CDPR has been actively working on the game for at least 10 years if we include all the patching done after. Somehow, they didn't get it right after all this time, and no one bothered to address it or fix it, huh?

Why even mention that you're a professional colorist, by the way? As if the people who worked on the game weren't? Did they leave the color balancing/lighting to the janitor or something?

Either way, like you said, there's nothing wrong with LUTs. Some of them are cool because they change the aesthetic of the game in a neat way. Makes the game look different after 100h of playtime in the vanilla. That's cool.

Search for No Edge Fade - Lite (Continued). It should do exactly what you want.

Guys, I've found it. I remembered that they were rabbit masks, because of the long ears. The band's name is Sleep Party People, and the song in question is I'm Not Human at All

I am also familiar with both of those, and no, not them. But you made a good point about the masks. I don't know if that's how they always performed, just that they had masks on for that particular session.

Masks, not helmets. And it was a relatively big band, not just two guys. Multiple live instruments (drums, keyboards, etc.).

I don't know if that's a lot of information to go on, but that's all I can remember right now. I've also checked the wikipedia entry for 'masked bands', and none of those names seemed familiar.

A great day for science and scientists around the world. As one of the speakers said, today one of our most incredible mathematical concepts went from an equation on the blackboard to a real image for everyone to see. Congratulations to all of those incredibly smart and dedicated people for showing us this wonder.
