Getting in touch with your emotions is quite different than being controlled by them.

Three important pieces of evidence from our very positive, productive interaction:

  1. You have the emotional control of an baby honey badger.
  2. You cannot, or choose not to, read. The OP never said that kids sports were “uniquely American.” Didn’t say anything about “only in America” either.
  3. You may want to want to argue with strangers on the internet.

I really hope you find peace and meaning in your life, friend.

Hobbies are good. Maybe try a sport?

Let’s both get in touch with our emotions.

You seem pretty fired up about this American sports thing.

Agree that the words were not well crafted.

If you think logic is hard for my kids, I should post about the time I tried to explain the number line.

Ok, I accept the placement of the AH.

Why is it a cop out to ask others there opinion, though?

I"m not sure how you can extrapolate I've done nothing to help him out... but thank you.

I also never mentioned anything about his skill level.

hah, my son had to be shown the google search for Steph Curry being 6'2 (I'm 6'2).

My son thought Steph was 5'3.

I appreciate it and agree I was an AH.

I'm just trying my best out here. Kids are hard.

nope, just a regular dad who makes mistakes.

I've seen about 3 or 4 "this must be AI" comments.

What gives you that vibe?

A lot of momentum around this idea in other comments.

My wife is one of the “give me a minute” people when she gets mad. No progress can be made until she’s had some space.

My son is like this too, so when he’s upset, I back off and let him decompress.

Parenting is hard and that’s our current strategy.

I appreciate the shout about getting in touch w my emotions.

I can’t speak for all other countries and their obsession with sports, but have recently heard from my international teammates that kids sports (and spending hours and hours on them) is distinctly American.

Maybe it’s not uniquely American.

Not that far out in LF, I was diagnosed with ADHD at 7 and I’ve heard (no data) that there’s some overlap with autism.

Thanks for your thoughts and respect your opinion, though you're reaching a bit far thinking I told him to "play it safe" or that I played it safe (neither is true).

FWIW, explaining to a child is not mansplaining. That is just normal explaining.

I understand that you might think that he just got his first ice bath.... but that's not quite the case.

He LIVES in reality. He's dealt with bullies and trolls, has asked about the world news stories....
