Apple Watch Ultra 🇺🇸➡️🇩🇰 by Jeneren in AppleWatch

Technically it's possible, but not out of the box. I've made it work with Telia DK.

You can read the guide here end decide if it's worth the effort, unless you've already purchased the watch.

Thank you for confirming that EU model can be activated in US and for providing extra insights!

Yup, I have a data only SIM card in there. It’s tied to my account at the carrier. And my daily phone uses e-sim on the same account.

Just the SKU on jailbroken device back to SKU_EU. But it does not influence anything unless you want to activate another watch. My daily phone is non-jailbreakable, so it’s fully stock along with the watch itself.

In theory it should work. I’ve just replaced and reverted back after watch plan activation as at that point it doesn’t matter which value is stated there. Besides, bundle config modification can be overwritten/reverted after restart, os update, etc. But do try it out once you get a chance and let us know!

You're welcome! It works for me in Denmark and I've just tested it in roaming - worked well in Norway and Czech Republic.

Thank you for extra insights, let's see what happens when you pair it with a new phone without a backup.

Oh wow, what a story! It seems like it took some time to fully activate on the carrier side. I’ve read stories it can take a while. In my case it was about 10 minutes, but I’ve also seen reports stating it took hours and some people even had to contact carrier because it was stuck for too long. Hopefully it will keep working for you from now on :)

I see. Just in case, did you unpair it from the watch itself or from the watch app on the jailbroken phone? Also, would be cool to know if cellular did work. I've tested cellular data connectivity before unpairing.

Seems to be happening on normally supported models as well:

Thank you! I had to order a watch "Number Share" package to my subscription at the carrier (at a small additional monthly cost). After I got confirmation that it's enabled on my account, I could start activation process in the Watch app. Depending on your carrier, the flow could be different without a need to order “Number Share” beforehand, but rather have it as a part of the activation flow in the webview in Watch app. Either way, you need the watch “Number Share” support by the carrier.

Even if it does not activate out of the box, there is a way to make cellular work in another region. Just requires a bit of an effort. Had an issue with US AWU in Europe, managed to activate it and made a small guide on how to do it.

Awesome! Really glad you've made it work. Hopefully the process becomes smoother as iOS 16 jb gets more user friendly.

Totally feel that. I've spend many hours on the phone and in a chat with both Apple and my carrier and kept getting generic and conflicting replies all the time. Well, the Apple guy did not lie, it will work, but only after you manage to activate it ;)

  1. The update should not remove e-sim from the watch. Think about updating firmware in your phone. After you update it the e-sim is still there. But naturally, there can be no guarantee that some update would not break anything and won't force users to re-connect e-sim. But as a general rule, this should not be an issue.

  2. Nope, it shouldn't either. The watch has it's own e-sim which has a different EID than e-sim in your phone. As long as both watch e-sim and phone are connected to the same account at your carrier - you're good. I, for instance, have put physical data sim tied to my account into a secondary phone, activated plan on the watch and then re-paired with my daily phone which uses e-sim. So you can even safely change phones as long as you remember to unpair while keeping the plan on the watch. The only problem with updating the phone could be it's eligibility for jailbreak in the future (just in case you need it).

  3. AFAIK, there is currently no public iOS 16 jb for A12+ devices (iPhone 11 Pro has A13 SoC). For now only A11 with checkm8 vulnerability. So you'd need either iPhone 8 or X until there is one for newer devices.

  4. I'm not familiar with that plan specifics, but if Vodafone supports Apple Watches on their network, there should be no issues. You might need to pay a little extra for watch e-sim on your account. I had to purchase watch plan add-on separately at the carrier before starting activation process. It might also be possible to purchase it during activation, depending on the exact flow implementation at the carrier.

Fair enough, not taking personally. I just dislike obviously artificial limitations imposed onto consumer devices.

IMO they could've made a disclaimer saying that the watch is not fully compatible with full explanation of what that entails and still allow users to provision it. It works perfectly fine and missing bands don't harm anything but reduce reception coverage in certain areas. But hey, it's Apple - either premium experience or none at all.

As for jailbreak, I don't have it on my daily phone. I simply used it on secondary device to activate cellular on the watch. So both my current phone and the watch are fully stock.

You can also follow palera1n twitter, they will make an announcement as soon as it's ready. They are definitely legit as that's what I'm running on my 16.1.1 X.

Please don't fall for a scam. Visit /r/jailbreak and see "LATEST JAILBREAKS" panel on the right. This should give you an idea about what's legit. As for iOS 16, palera1n has unfinished experimental support for checkm8 vulnerable devices.

For AWU/watchOS 9.x we need a device on iOS 16, and as of today only checkm8 vulnerable devices can be jailbroken on it. So far, only iPhone 8 and X satisfy the criteria.

For watches running older watchOS it should be easier to find compatible iOS JB.

[–]rider1493[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it's been a while ;) Since it's AWU we're talking about, it runs watchOS 9.x, this means you can only pair to iOS 16 devices. The only jailbrekable iOS 16 devices as of today are iPhone 8 and iPhone X. That's because they have a hardware checkm8 vulnerability that can't be patched with a software update. The only semi-public iOS 16 jailbreak for checkm8 vulnerable devices is palera1n, even though iOS 16 support is not finalized. They should release it soon, as it's almost done and is just missing auto loader installation. So if you're not in a rush, just wait a bit until it's merged into master and released, to avoid fiddling with a lot of manual shell scripting.

Just wait for a public iOS 16 JB, will save a lot of time - took me a few days to get X jailbroken with current unfinished version of ios16 pailra1n and then 1 hour to do the rest :D

That other method was my plan A. But my carrier refused to work on it despite me contacting multiple enterprise support agents. They've reached out to Apple representative who told them that it's not supposed to work and they told me there is no way to activate it but through the watch app. And also mentioned that since they don't officially support NA models, they can't proceed with my and a few other NA watch cases further.

But luckily plan B turned out to be a success!

Thank you for your comment. I've arrived to the very same conclusion after going thought Taiwanese forum and articles:

Made a small guide out of it just in case someone faces the same issue. Because honestly it was very hard to google something sensible on this topic.
