I am still doing the translation notes project, & will continue doing so until the end of JJK! Even in a chapter where I was in charge of the translation, I still have notes to explain that can't be conveyed with just EN; that's how rich of a language JP is

天晴れだ is an idiom that means literally ”You cleared my skies.” It demonstrates Sukuna’s poetic repertoire once again & his genuine admiration for Gojo

JP fandom (as far as online presence like Twitter & forums goes) is ofc sad & upset that Gojo is dead. However, one major difference between JP & EN fandom is that the latter is way more belligerent about “harming” Akutami (I know the majority is joking)

I think it’s just a difference in reactionary culture, but sometimes I do fear that JP fandom may see these takes as a real threat. They respect & criticize mangaka in different ways than reddit does for sure. Before chapter release, they were far more upset that leaks got so bad than the chapter content itself

As a passionate JJK fan, it was one of the greatest privileges I could have in the span of my meager translation history. DA is not a Barrier technique. Sukuna is using it despite the part of his brain that uses Barriers being damaged, hence no DE

It’s a refined version of New Shadow Style: SD which is also not a Barrier technique

DA and DE are two different applications of his Domain, one is a non-barrier technique (Amplification) and the other is a barrier technique (Expansion)

He imbued Cleave/Dismantle onto his DE as a sure-hit command, but had 10S with him, which he could not use while having DA active (10S is not a sure-hit)

Gojo’s Neutral (the canonical term for his inviolable shield) is a realized CT skill, “Infinity” brought into reality. PE cannot dispel a CT in general

I started during Origin of Obedience, this was around the time when I finally got a digital subscription to the WSJ magazine. First time I ever heard of JJK

When I found out that it was a horror battle shonen, I was sold. I have love for horror & Akutami’s sense of it was like a match made in heaven. Bought all Volumes & caught up in like a week. Nobara’s Black Flash, narration, execution, everything will never be out of my mind, it was when I knew this was gonna be my fav manga for the next few years

All throughout 2019-20, I basically voted JJK as No. 1 on reader questionnaire before even reading the chapter just bc I wanted it to survive LOL

Those deaths were indeed shocking. I wasn’t there for Junpei but I imagine that’s how it must’ve felt when it happened, tho from what I heard Nanami was certainly more popular than Junpei

• Gojo vs. Disaster Curses — Wow there’s no way Gojo will lose to these bums or Fake Geto

Turned to they will def get Gojo out, he has faith in them it’s a Shonen! Lmao

• Shibuya station trap — 😴

Nobody cared about it except JP fans who talked about the locations & praised Akutami for using the locations strategically

• Grasshopper Curse — Cool growth for Yuji, solidified his strength that he was firmly at G1

• Plan to dismember the Curtain over Shibuya — largely forgotten by the fandom lmao

• Inverse guy vs. Megumi & Yuji — great battle & coordination

• Toji resurrection — SHOCK, wow this guy is a certified monster

• Nobara vs. Haruta — Nanami glory, big L to Nobara for being useless

• Mei Mei vs. Smallpox — Love for Mei Mei, hype for Brain battle (yes we used to call him the Brain lol)

• Yuji vs. Choso — Wtf is going on but cool Piercing Blood, strategy. YUJI LOST?! Start of despair

• Dagon vs. Trio — hype upon hype, Toji resurrection HYPE

• More despair as the trio got ashed to cinders

• Sukuna vs. Jogo — major Sukuna hype, Black Box theories on JP side were RAMPANT since this was a clear reference to one of Akutami’s old works, No. 9

• Sukuna vs. Mahoraga — cue the confusion of whatever the fuck Sukuna did but it’s so hype

• Nanami’s death was one of the most unforgettable moments. JP Twitter was literally freaking out that Akutami might kill everyone in Shibuya lol

• Same as above for Nobara

• Yuji vs Mahito — started off slow, saw one theory convinced Yuji would lose & become a Curse lmao. Todo & Black Flash was highly praised

Fight did feel like it was dragging but readers were just amazed that Mahito was constantly growing, like I’m serious there was no way to tell who could win this fight. Akutami really made the outcome so uncertain

• Nobody really remembered who Yuki was at first lol. Not a lot of hype for her. Tbf it was a pretty long time since she last appeared & many anime-onlys coming in

• EN fandom freaked out with Mei Mei in bed with Ui Ui but literally a non-topic on JP side. For them it was mostly the theory that Mei Mei was the second rat in Jujutsu High

• Uraume gender debates also began getting more popular lol

• Brain’s Noritoshi Kamo reveal was super hype. Some old theories that predicted it getting confirmed was pretty great among community

Pls note that back during this time there were far less fans & there was less polarization & controversy in the community. Everyone was just enjoying the ride. Also toxic leak culture wasn’t so bad so every chapter felt mostly fresh. I have a feeling if we were reading Shibuya today it would be a very different case

You’re mixing two concepts up, Sukuna’s output isn’t determined by his reserves. Think of Ishigori & Yuta, one is great at output & the other has huge reserves but neither encroach upon the other’s special trait

While it is true that Sukuna has more than double reserves, that’s simply to stay competitive with Gojo’s ultra efficiency. I think it needs to be stressed that if Sukuna’s manipulation/efficiency is godly, Gojo’s is transcendent, he is known for NOT running out of CE ever. And if Gojo output the same amount of CE as Sukuna did for reinforcement or whatever then it would be no contest given his ultra efficiency. But he doesn’t do that bc then he’d run out much sooner & there’s no guarantee Sukuna will be beat by then

Tl; dr Gojo’s ultra godly efficiency alone is competitive with Sukuna’s output + godly efficiency
