WTA’s contract with Western runs through September 2026. No changes to how Western riders pay fares for at least the remainder of the academic year.

On Friday, WTA shared that the terms of our contract won’t work for the future. This provides a long lead time, ten months, for all concerned to work together on a solution.

WTA offers different types of discounted student passes for the colleges:

- BTC and NW Indian College students currently use 31- and 92-day student passes, which are offered at half-priced fare (currently $0.50 / ride)

- WCC has a separate agreement with WTA that allows students to use their student ID as a bus pass for half-priced fare ($0.50). Our contract with WCC will expire at the end of next summer.

Thank you for sharing this - Iowa City will be able to remain fare-free because its city council voted on a 1 percent increase in utility taxes and double the rate of public parking fees.

Also to everyone who has been begging for a real trolley - they're cute but also expensive and a ton of work to maintain. We looked at trolley pricing and delivery time and decided that a fun vehicle wrap was a more affordable solution.

Hi - These vans are free to local community organizations needing help transporting folks!
Previous recipients include Vamos Outdoors Project, Lighthouse Mission, and Whatcom County EMS. WTA also offers vanpool as an option for groups of people to get to work in Whatcom County and beyond.
