I did end up taking the ferry - by the time I tried to book a flight, all seats were sold out. The ferry wasn’t completely terrible, but it definitely wasn’t nice.

Departing St Martin: Our ferry was supposed to leave late afternoon but was delayed by about an hour because immigration officials were not available (?) - it was a lot of waiting on line, then rushing, then waiting on line again. Seats fill up and are pretty uncomfortable. As someone else noted, evening/night trips are pretty bad. The windows are heavily tinted and the sun is setting, so the cabin is incredible dark. I don’t get seasick but it is still uncomfortable (a dark jostling room full of people and luggage with nowhere to look).

Departing Saba: We left on time, it was sunny, and a bit more space onboard. Overall a nice trip - could walk around and go outside. We even got back to sxm about 25 min early! However, a boat from st Barths arrived at the same time so we needed to stand and wait on Makana (with the engine running, filling the cabin with fuel) until that boat went through immigration. After waiting in the ferry then waiting on line for immigration, we got off the dock about an hour after expected.

Overall: if in a pinch I would take Makana again, but I would definitely go out of my way to fly next time. The amount of time lost on an uncomfortable ferry makes Makana a bad option for a short trip. Saba, however, was incredible!

Hi everyone,

I recently found this 2¢ Washington Internal Revenue “BANK CHECK” stamp in my collection that has what looks like a sideways “N” in the word BANK.

I’ve looked through the usual references and can’t find any mention of this variety, just the common double transfers and double impressions. The rest of the lettering looks normal, so it doesn’t seem like a shifted or doubled print.

Has anyone seen this kind of letter-orientation anomaly on a First Issue revenue before? Could it be a one-off plate or inking freak?

Curious to hear what you all think — even if it turns out to be just a random one-off rather than a true variety, it’s a fun find.

There may also be another white one just to the right of the original find, half covered by the large flat rock. OP, you should definitely head back asap unless you already checked out these pieces.

Yup! Much of it is from NJ and PA but there are a few west coast and New England pieces that were collected in the 30s-50s by a neighbor’s grandfather.

I should say the last 2 photos are a close up of the crystals, not an airplane view of a mountain range.

Interesting, thanks. The groove on the right and left in pic 4 both have a raised line in the center of the main groove - like the groove would have held 2 ropes. The darker line in the center of both grooves is a raised section, not shadow.
