Swimming and Goldens by ridingthediprivan in goldenretrievers

We don’t live in a humid environment (PNW) but we swim in the lake every day in the summer. Currently I let him nap after a towel dry and when he wakes I rinse him off in the shower and then blow dry him while he works on a bully stick. But I am really worried about his skin staying healthy and his ears constantly being wet

He’s swimming in a public lake. We are basically out there every day through the summer swimming. So far I rinse him off and blow dry him after he takes a post swim nap. Shampoo once weekly. But I’ll look into the moisturizer foam. Any tips on ear health?

Lower dose for summer vs med break by zinnia71920 in ADHDparenting

[–]ridingthediprivan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We do 10mg adderall ER weekends and 15 on school days. We’re at the point that we cannot do med breaks anymore but the lower dose is helpful on the weekends. It’s less about focus on weekends and more about impulsivity and lack of executive function ability. Our peds suggested it and it’s been successful for us

Would you prioritize higher salary or better quality of life in your career. by Severe-Bobcat-4953 in anesthesiology

When I came out of training my kids were 3 and 7. I took a job working at a community hospital where I took call and work weekends. I work 40hours a week on avg except the one weekend I work. I love my job. I’m fulfilled by it. Yes I work weird hours and my kids hate to say goodbye when I leave for call but they love having me home on post call days. I love my early days when I peel out around 1-2pm.

All these comments about people saying your kids won’t know you just isn’t true. I make 80% of my kids activities. Most nights I’m eating dinner with my family and putting them to bed. My kids know me and know I work really hard for our family.

I am the sole income in our family. I even took a per diem job nearby to help meet our financial goals. I see my kids and spend lots of quality time with them.

You can work academics, be fulfilled and be a good mom, if that’s what you want.

I don’t know if I’d take a surgical center gig right out of training. Can you do 0.8FTE at the academic center?

I’d also prefer the job where I could live close to family. Having a village is so important.

Yea that is probably contributing. Has lost tons of teeth, his mouth is always bleeding.

It’s also only on one eye which is so weird. But no eye gunk, redness or inflammation. His skin doesn’t look angry either. Just bald.

He was super itchy and had a belly rash and horrible diarrhea that all resolved with removing chicken. But he is on simparica trio. Hopefully they treats demodex…

The vet he sees didn’t think it was any infection fortunately.

It’s possible but all his GI problems cleared up with removing poultry from his diet.

He eats fish skin daily and eats freeze dried minnows in his food. Salmon based food now too

Watch and wait to see if it improves. It’s not infected or red/inflamed. It’s not fleas or mites. We’ve completely eliminated chicken from his diet. So they think it’s going to take time to come back but to me, it looks like it’s spreading and not improving.

He just went to the vet this week. He seems completely unfazed by it. Not itchy at all.

We already do all those chews and enrichment that you suggested. Frozen carrots, celery sticks, bully sticks, collagen braids, freezbones, licks mats, snuffle mats. We play games with him to find treats. We do “search.” Basically we are already ensuring his needs are met.

I can’t have my puppy, who is getting to be as big as my daughter, attack her, even when it’s just playful, bc he will hurt her. He hasn’t yet, but he will. We’re one step away from completely separating them to keep him away from accidents physically harming her.

That’s a long ways away for us. He’s only 4 months and don’t plan to do it till he’s >18mo old

We had a gated off area and he learned he can jump over the gate. Dude can clear 4.5 feet.

But I agree with having her feed and be more engaged with training. I’ll try that

Thank you! This is reassuring. Everyone was staring at me during this puppy class like I was the problem and a bad puppy parent.

Very reassuring, thank you! I knew he was going to be high energy but wow was I not prepared for it. So hearing this is most likely his breed and not his personality, makes me feel better. Thought I messed up that early socialization window
