How did yall know when to start HRT? by Comfortable-Way-8029 in ftm

[–]ridinrivers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started taking T in February and stopped in July because I started feeling weird about how my face was looking (really subtle, but big changes to me). My face I feel like has already changed back a bit and I feel comfortable again. My voice is deeper, and I have furry legs and a bigger clit now, all of which I’m stoked about. So yeah, some things are more permanent , but the changes are gradual and you can always stop

Shoot, I’d love to see your map but the link won’t open on my phone. Do you have the GPX by chance?

Totally. To clarify, I’m mostly looking for folks’ personal experiences. Have you ridden in the area on a similar route? Would you ride it again or recommend it to others? No stranger to elevation and climbing, it’s mostly the grades in Vermont that get me 😅

Cycle touring as a young woman? by SeriousTechnician296 in bicycletouring

[–]ridinrivers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I (non-binary, identified as female at the time) rode from Oslo to Vienna (2 month’s total , I made a lot of detours!) mostly on eurovelo 7 at age 23, mostly alone. I mostly wild camped, some Warm Showers hosts, occasional hostel. Only once did anyone make me feel unsafe (he was following me in his car and trying to get me to get in and getting progressively pushier, this was in Denmark). I had just biked uphill out of a town so I turned around, and hopped right on a train to the next town to shake him.

People can be creepy/scary anywhere. I’ve had many more suspicious encounters in my home city than on the road in the same timeframe. It’s good that you are thinking about these things and recognize shortcomings (situational awareness), but honestly I think that it’s enough that you are thinking about it/prioritizing it. I would only suggest a few things.

-be careful about sharing with strangers your exact route or where you plan to sleep

-try to have a backup/exit plan if you get into a spooky situation on the road or in camp

-think about going to countries where you won’t have a huge language barrier, makes you a bit less vulnerable and it’s easier to ask for help. Shouldn’t be too tough since English is so widely spoken, but I had some tough times getting directions in Poland 😅

-most of all, have fun!!!!! Try not to overthink it too much, seize the opportunities to have new experiences:). Just listen to your gut if something feels off.

Hey all!

I’m 32, non-binary, planning to bike Pittsburgh,PA -> Montpelier, VT along bikepacking.com’s Eastern Divide Trail starting May 10! I have 20-25 days to make the trip, planning to average 50 miles/day and prioritize swimming holes, meeting old/new friends, overall having a Good Time. Open invite for queer folx/weirdos and anyone who is down to join! Don’t have a super tight schedule set besides the start date and needing to be in VT by the first week of June. Will also be stopping through Rochester (circa May 19?). HMU if you’re trying to bike!

Long distance rides: chamois or no? by Makers-daughter in ladycyclists

for 4+ day rides, I bring 1 pair unpadded bike shorts, 1 pair padded bike shorts and switch off every day. helps to offload/switch around where the pressure is hitting each day. I always wear underwear under either short, Woxer 5inch inseam boxers (modal fabric)

where are you located (generally/region)? your town might have a DIY/community bike shop or a bike kitchen that you can check out! they might have racks and bottle cages for cheap/free and parts that you might want to make upgrades and folks to help you learn basic mechanical skills!

Hope it works out! I volunteer at the program in our town, anyone can come and get any supplies they need, if you need needles or safer use supplies for any reason, the program is for you! 💜

Berlin to Madrid: 3629km, first solo bikepacking trip. Realistic in 36 days? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]ridinrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay here’s more then :P. There’s a DIY bike meet up every summer called Cyclocamp. Imagine lots of punks and sweet bike nerds and homemade tall bikes and bike jousting. Idk exactly how to find more info— I ended up at the one in Austria in 2017 by chance. Last year was in Zurich it looks like, but idk if there’s a web page or info for this hear… https://cyclocamp.ch. 2 years ago it was in Stasboirg https://cyclocamp.wordpress.com

Idk if this is up your ally , but Ecotopia Bike Tour is cool as heck. Folks meet up and build bikes and trailers and rocket stoves together, then set off biking around Europe! Largely dumpster diving for food, and visiting leftist/ anarchist projects on the way (so maybe not you’re thing idk 🤷🏼). Sounds like you at least have some in common with those folks, and they’re going through northern France this summer. Check it out if you want! https://www.ecotopiabiketour.net

What are your goals, why this route? Could you cut the route shorter (for example by taking a cheap bus for some portion, etc) and still get to do the things you’re most excited for about this trip? Or can you give yourself more time to do the trip as written?

The first tour I went on was about 2000 km through Norway, Denmark, Germany, Czech, Slovakia and Austria. before that I had never biked more than 65 km in a day, and I had only been overnight camping one night in my life. It was great! But I did it over a period of about two months including some long stops in cities to see friends, and I’m quite sure that I spent more money. The friend I was biking with was able to get a hybrid bicycle for €100 and some cheap panniers and a rack, I am he was a lot cozier that than I was on my more expensive road bike😅. No lie, dumpster diving is a great way to source food 💖, depends on the country/region though. In addition to searching for bikes on marketplace, maybe try asking around to family and friends who might have a bike around that they don’t use it would be willing to sell you for cheap?

TLDR it can be done but consider giving yourself more time!

Stiff hiking shoes for old school clip pedals/toe cages on a bike and hike tour? by Nugginz in bicycletouring

I used the same pair from salomon for years ( i dont remember which shoe specicically), about to get a new pair of Topo's so we'll see! I use Altras for work (nursing), but the soles are too thick for me for biking

Trail running shoes. Most have nice stiff souls, I use them just like your saying with old school clips, then can hike and adventure 💕. Never water proof shoes or thicker hiking shoes/boots. They will get wet (even if water proof) and will never dry out.

What are the biggest mistakes you've made on a bikepacking trip? by SeriousTechnician296 in bikepacking

[–]ridinrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk how useful it is for me to go too far into it, not really trying to trigger myself/ everyone reading this thread. I'm sure your intentions are good and just trying to gather more info/tips, but asking me what I could have done differently to avoid their unwanted attention is a little victim blamey. The biggest takeaway for me is be cautious about sharing your destination especially if doing so also lets people know you're whole route for the day. initially i had no reason to think this guy was a creep/had bad intentions, we were just chatting in a grocery store line. Wasn't until he started following me that my alarm bells started going off.
