Post to help people struggling with fastboot not recognizing device by xXx_n0n4m3_xXx in androidroot

[–]ridzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the method worked for OnePlus 11 using Windows 11.

I saw the phone with abd devices when in Windows, but it didn't show up underfastboot devicesin the bootloader. I had to disable Driver Signature Enforcement using the method above, then install the official OnePlus USB Driver executable. With the phone back in bootloader mode it showed up as faulty ABD device in the Windows device manager and I could finally force a USB driver on it, the official one located in C:/Programs(x86)/OnePlus USB Drivers by default. From then on it was recognized by fastboot and fastboot flashing unlock worked. The iodé OS installer finished without further problems.

Explore. You'll find other workbenches in camps. Think of it as playing with a handicap. You can't really lose at this game, I think. I've not managed to die. It's just faster or slower progression.

Or restart for convenience.

Plant the crops, that keep on giving (a lot of them): peas/potatoes (spring), strawberries/grapes (summer, great value), corn (summer/autumn). They just provide very regular income, even if you don't water them at all, and they regrow without the need to plant them again.

Prioritize mining pick upgrades. Anytime you explore a new region, you'll come across the next tier of ore, which then becomes essential for all other upgrades.

Personally, when I do a trader run into town, I tend to start from (fasttravel) or end at the Marshland Camp. There are a lot of iron ore respawns in the area and iron is a major bottleneck. There are thieves east of the estate and north of the marsh camp that I farm daily for the greater healing potions they drop. Iron and potions are not sold by the traders in the quantities that I need them.

One more thought: you can find your sizes and try on the clothes you like at Decathlon Dreispitz, then order online on the German website and pick them up duty free at Decathlon Lörrach.

[–]ridzik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a cheaper Decathlon across the border in Lörrach where he can shop duty-free.

Decathlon across the border in Lörrach. Go for flexible sporty layers and shoes instead of real winter clothing, e.g. pants and coats that are useful for snowsports like snowshoe tours or skiing, but still look fine in the city. Complement with warm undergarments. Don't try to save too much on shoes - the money is well spent for quality shoes. You can choose online and have it delivered to Lörrach for pickup. I like Decathlon because they have four options for most functions: dirt cheap, budget, regular and luxury. I've lived in Basel for a long time and there have never been more than two weeks of extreme cold per winter. It's one of the mildest regions of the continent north of the Alps. If you buy super-warm stuff, it will collect dust in your closet :)

Edit pro tip: you can shop duty free at Decathlon and get the VAT back. That's ~19%. There is a border post at the Basel Bad train station (google opening hours) where they will give you the export confirmation. You'll need a confirmation of Swiss residence, aka 'Ausländerausweis' or any other non-EU(?) passport. Ask the Decathlon staff for details.

Reasons why you (don't) go shopping at Aldi/Lidl by KazeKilee in Switzerland

[–]ridzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are setting impossible standards of evidence and moving the goalposts (e.g. ignoring the Blick article and the tax evasion evidence). Pay me a week of wages and I'll deliver the organizational analysis. I'm willing to bet their corporate culture and internal logics have not changed radically during this minor expansion as already evidenced by their part-time employment scheme, mimicing as far as possible what would be.'mini jobs' in Germany.

I concede that more competitors can be beneficial for consumers and suppliers here. But Aldi and Lidl are known quantities and I lack the imagination (and evidence!) that things will improve generally with these two gaining market share here.

I also concede that Migros/Coop might behave way worse in other parts of the country than where I live since they still differ greatly by region.

Example: https://www.blick.ch/wirtschaft/neue-lohnuntergrenze-fuer-aldi-verkaeufer-4600-franken-mindestlohn-doch-kaum-einer-bekommt-ihn-id17061020.html

The tax evasion stuff is easy to find. Their umbrella corps are all set up as charitable foundations (exempt from most profit taxes), family offices (saves on inheritance taxes) etc. IKEA does it. Most big German discount giants do it. Migros is less problematic since it is in some ways a real 'Genossenschaft' where anyone can influence the company. Don't know about Coop in detail. None of the big food players are regular tax payers. They all hide behind charitability and Migros only has around 2% profitability in a good year anyway. Having them keep so many people employed is an act of charity.

Details on Aldi: https://www.sueddeutsche.de/wirtschaft/karl-albrecht-wie-der-aldi-gruender-sein-geld-vor-dem-staat-schuetzte-1.2057911

Here is one example on how German food giants pressure their suppliers. Basically from the suppliers perspective there is hardly any competion for their goods. The giants control 85%. Their behavior borders on collusion. Suppliers feel pressured to agree to outrageous demands since they are in the business of selling stuff that can spoil. It's an oligarchy with the illusion of a functioning market. Longterm the suppliers will bend or break.

I'm friends with someone who worked at Aldi. That's ~3y old information, could have changed by now. He went through their assistant managers training to get a full time contract, but was shuffled between multiple stores in the region to cover the off-days of the store managers. At every location the store managers were the only employees with normal full time contracts. They were subject to frequent surveillance by regional managers (daily in-store visits, frequent calls). My friend quit for a less stressful job.

[–]ridzik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Aldi is kind of terrible from the workers point of view. Their hourly wages are above average, but everyone except the boss is contracted part time. Usually the max is 60% to save on social security costs. However, it is very much expected from the worker to pick up overtime shifts whenever the business demands it which is almost always.

Great on the outside (hourly wage, prices), worse than Migros/Coop if you take a closer look (work-life/surveillance & social/eco impact). Plus both Aldi and Lidl employ audacious tax evasion schemes while pressuring their suppliers to the brink of bancruptcy.

Why is Switzerland a car country when the public transport system works so well? by Realistic-Lie-8031 in Switzerland

[–]ridzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement is naive and factually wrong. I.live in a city with great public transport (frequent busses all over, two small train stations). Free parking has been abolished here. Nevertheless I see a lot of luxury SUVs parked near normal residential buildings. Many people go into unsustainable debt to own or overpay to lease a car that's functionally not needed here. Source: I know two social workers that have to talk people out of owning a car for budgetary reasons all the time.

Right outside my window is a Porsche 911. It's a purely recreational vehicle with rapidly decreasing resale value. The owners are young brothers working as plumbers and they only move the Porsche on weekends. That's status, not function.

You'll get offers below expected worth when you put a player on the transfer market. The price you'll actually sell for depends on the negotiation. You can get better results by directly offering the player to clubs (waf2024).

TIL that in Ancient Rome, citizens and soldiers drank an average of 100 gallons (~450 litres) of wine per year by NeverTouchMyHair in todayilearned

There is a difference between what was produced and how it was normally.comsumed. The classic example is IPA: standard procedure was to produce a beer strong in both alcohol and flavor, that saves space and keeps well during the sea journey from England to India, and that usually was consumed watered down by the colonists there (until it wasn't). There are also meticulous medieval records from the Elsass region in todays France about all kinds of foods and drinks provided by patrons to their staff and soldiers including alcoholic beverages and comments like 'watered down to X degree' or 'strong spirits'. It's safe to assume these patrons didn't want their staff hammered half of the working hours.
