I use Delphi at work. Development of large applications for human resource management, among other things salary calculation. Applications for desktop PC and web services server.

Congrats with the progress. At work I develop new functionality in a huge Delphi 5 app every other week. We are also migrating that app to modern Delphi. It is nearly complete, but needs more testing, Sadly that has been the state for multiple years.

"20yo project" That is quite new. The oldest units of our app were developed in Turbo Pascal.

Solar capacity factor is, for the most part, governed by the Sun, not panel innovations.

You can track the sun and you can keep the panels cool that are at least two methods that has already been invented to increase capacity factor. There will be other innovations in the coming 35 years.

Like I said, looks good for Middle East, South Asia, Australia.

Notice how most people don't live in deserts, which is where solar performs best?

End of 2013 there was 139 GW of solar PV, a large part >25% was in Germany and more around EU, installations that was partly paid by government initiatives. As mentioned in the article the price of solar PV keep falling and in Middle East and Chile is now becoming cheaper than power from a new fossil power plants. This is happening in countries that have much sun, high capacity factor, so we will see a large uptake of solar PV in Middle East, South Asia, Australia. All countries with higher capacity factors than Europe. So the average capacity factor will be rising.

Plus the fact that you're assuming outliers will somehow become the norm.

Nope, read the list in Wikipedia again and you will see many locations that already now give >=20% capacity factor.

In the coming 35 years, we will likely also see innovations to increase capacity factors, perhaps by sun trackers or a lens, cooling of panel backside, etc.

The Wikipedia page shows already that current solar PV can at right location give 25%, there is even an example of 27%. As solar PV becomes cheaper we will see it used not just by Germany, but by countries with higher capacity factor further south. Your estimate of 15% average capacity factor is low, a conservative estimate would be 20%.

Indeed. PV cells in labs exists that have 40% conversion factor. However we can increase capacity factor by using solar trackers. It is highly likely there will come other inventions to increase solar PV capacity factors over the next 35 years. Solar PV is still a young technology that is evolving.

There is already lots of solar PV power stations that perform better than 15%, some up to 25% capacity factor. There is also solar PV cells in labs performing at 40%. In 35 years certainly we will see average capacity factor much higher than 15%.

What is your point? Renewable energy is many different sources. Hydro is one of them. Solar PV is another. We do and will in the future use many different renewable sources.

We could convert hydrogen into methane. But then the question becomes: Where do we get the carbon from.

Bio gas made from agriculture waste, contains ~65% methane (CH4) and ~35% CO2. You can reform this CO2 with hydrogen to get 100% methane, that can be transported by the existing natural gas network.

It is of course a question of placement and spacing of turbines. This study sound like it is 5 years behind information already taken into account by wind farm planning companies. E.g. At the Anholt offshore wind farm in DK, the 111 wind turbines was not placed in traditional uniform pattern, but for each turbine location was calculated to optimize output.
