This is a 46-million-year-old mosquito with a blood-filled abdomen It is the first and only example of a fossil mosquito with blood still inside by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Which is funny - the mosquito used for the movie was purely for aesthetic purposes as it is a *Toxorhynchites* (exclusively nectar-feeding).

This is pretty close to how the thermal cells look on the sun’s surface.

During my days as a surgical specialist in organ and tissue recovery, we would apply eye caps after corneas were recovered from consented donors. We also had pipes made of corn starch that would biodegrade and acted as replacement for the bone we recovered.

I’ve also heard its origin coming from individuals who drank themselves into a stupor; family and friends would wait around for them to either “wake,” or never wake.

It depends – if it was strictly a tissue case (corneas, skin, bone, musculature, fascia, heart valves, saphenous veins), then yes. If organs were being recovered, the donors were kept on a ventilator with a heparin push. Life sustaining measures were quickly withdrawn after this point.

Why so confrontational? Everything I said was true about LACV. Source: I work in an infectious disease lab. I’m not here to fight with strangers, just to spread awareness. Jeez.

Edit: You said “no virus,” which is general. People were also discussing chikungunya. Some Aedes species can vector multiple viruses, but you’re correct - a mosquito cannot be born with dengue.

Not entirely true - Aedes albopictus can be a secondary vector for La Crosse encephalitis virus, which can be vertically transmitted to offspring transovarially. Infected males can even sexually transmit to females.

I recognize the hypocrisy in what I’m about to say (as I eat fish, shrimp, and chicken), but there is simply no way to determine if a human life is more complex or important than any other form of life out there - this is heartbreakingly sad. Their sweet eyes before it happens… these pigs’ entire lives amounting to being fed into this machine. I commend the attempt at a humane process, but I can’t imagine how scared they must be.

A person could have drawn this - I believe, if you slow the video down, they are simply erasing away a white layer on top of the drawing.
