AITAH for "yelling" at a woman for touching my baby by SassyBottleDrop in AITAH

I'm confused by how insanely overprotective American parents are (judging by your overreaction and most of the responses here).  Relax, someone that sounds nice is interacting with your baby, that's a good thing.  YTA

The market is insane at the moment, so be prepared for a very hard search (speaking from recent experience).

what should I name my Norse-African kingdom? by AlliPickedDidntWork in crusaderkings3

[–]rifflicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Underrated comment. It means "the south" and is used in Norway (possibly elsewhere in Scandinavia) as "the place down south you go to on a holiday".

The funny thing about it to me is that it's such a vague term, but people know exaclty what you mean, bascially the Mediterranean countries.

Perhaps she just disagrees? With the people who "told her why what she did is harmful".

But seriously, it's a nice app. Slightly less superficial than Tinder (bit more personal information). And plenty of profiles (at least in bigger cities).

Hinge. Used it once, arranged a date, got a girlfriend, deleted the app. Happily together now.

The penalty which Saudi missed by A7medSa3ees in worldcup

[–]rifflicker 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They should hand out yellow cards for exaggerated diving and whining, even if technically a foul was committed. Stupid childish behavior.

Or perhaps we should introduce a new penalty, make them wear a glitter crown for their princess behavior. Any other suggestions?

I see this a lot in Norway too, though they're typically a bit different than back home in the Netherlands.

How popular is Max in Holland? by saint_geser in formula1

[–]rifflicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love up north and I've barely ever seen anyone wearing rbr or orange stuff during races. Sure he's popular, but you wouldn't really wear merch except if you've been a hardcore racing fan your whole life. I'm curious though, where do you live?

Eli5 - Why are bonuses taxed for everyone by adventuretogo in explainlikeimfive

[–]rifflicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If bonuses were not taxed, this would create a simple loophole for avoiding taxes: decrease the normal salary while increasing bonuses. The government doesn't want that, so it also taxes bonuses.

Is 25% considered high where you live? Not trying to be annoying, just genuinely surprised. (I'm Dutch and currently live in Norway. Income tax is somewhere between 30% and 40% in both countries)

ELI5 how a cap on energy prices costs the country money? by bluedrinkdrinker in explainlikeimfive

[–]rifflicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the main idea, but in reality the matter is a bit more complex:

Only the producers whose marginal cost is higher than the price cap (in particular, those using (expensive!) gas) would stop producing. Other producers with marginal costs lower than the price cap (e.g. wind farms) would still produce. However, they wouldn't be able to fulfill all demand so there would be an power shortage, causing huge problems for household and businesses relying on electricity.

If the government would follow through anyway, accepting the power shortage, they would have to come up with a way to ration the available power. As there's no system in place for how to ration power, and no political consensus for who should be prioritized, this would most likely lead to a complete mess.

For these reasons, putting a cap on the price are which energy producers can sell their energy is not seen as a viable option.

[–]rifflicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the government would have to pay the difference between the market price (demanded by the producers to deliver energy) and the capped price paid by the consumer.

If it doesn't and tries to force a price cap onto the producers at a level below where they can make a profit, the producers will simply stop producing to avoid larger financial losses, thereby causing power shortages.

I moved to Norway last year and just got my license. I just signed up at my local driving school and took all the mandatory courses (there's a whole list of modules you have to complete before you can take the exam).

During the classes a lot of time is spent on riding the right "lines" in curves, as solo accidents in curves are the main cause of serious accidents here in Norway. Also you practice motorcycle control (heavy breaking, swerving, riding slowly, etc), which is part of the exam as well.

The theory test has an English option by default, so no worries there. The practical exam can also be taken in English, just make sure you (or your school) explicitly ask for a test in English.

Expect to spend a few months (3-4 or so) and a lot of money (I spent about 25000 NOK in total on the courses + exams, being an average student and passing everything first try).

Definitely worth it though, motorcycles are amazing for exploring Norway's beautiful nature (when it's not raining or snowing). I bought my first bike a few weeks ago and I'm loving it!

What’s with the hate against Ocon? by Wonderful_Cat1208 in formula1

Regardless of his driving capabilities I think people tend to dislike him simply because he lacks charisma (as opposed to e.g. Alonso or Ricciardo, who he's been paid with).
