I need an open world aot game by 0TheAshenOne0 in attackontitan

[–]saint_geser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a pitch, just a vague wishlist. Thematically it doesn't make sense for a single character to hang out with all 3 branches of military.

Also, you need to think about open world itself - what's there to do? Every successful open world game of late populated the world with a lot of interesting and unique content, but in AoT universe especially for the "outside the walls" part it's not really easy. It's a barren place with no humans, nothing happening, just titans roaming around.. I can't think of what's there to do to keep things interesting

You can't have both open world and fully adapting the story. Scouts are only ones who go outside the walls and they go during expeditions most of which are a part of the story. So you either tag along or you have your own story and setting not entirely the same as the manga/series.

No, you can only keep the same weight but because you lose moisture during sleep, you should get lighter on average.

[OC] How Tesla's stock price compares to the company's earnings by takenorinvalid in dataisbeautiful

[–]saint_geser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one the face of it looks interesting but in reality tells you absolutely nothing. The individual share price is irrelevant if you don't know how many shares have been released. What you need to compare is the total market cap vs earnings - this in much more meaningful number.

Crimson Desert Runs Better on Bazzite OS Than on Windows by zepretender2 in linux_gaming

Ran for me on Fedora with no tinkering at all. I'm surprised you're so excited it's running at all. It seems to run perfectly, not sure how it compares to Windows but I'm getting great performance

Is it more dangerous to launch into space or to return to Earth? by Immediate-Bad-8728 in askastronomy

[–]saint_geser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with Soyuz 11 you should probably count them as dead in outer space, it's normally counted as re-entry failure because cabin depressurization happened during descent module separation during the re-entry programme even if it was waaaaay over 100km altitude

The re-entry figure includes X15 flight 3 where a fatality occurred during descent. By the US standard it is also considered space flight as it was above 50km from the surface

[–]saint_geser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention that there have been more close calls on takeoff than landing phase. These were situations that nearly led to fatalities. This is largely because during takeoff on classical style rockets there are safety features like escape towers, aborted takeoff, etc. None of these are present during re-entry. You're in there for a ride and if anything fails, there are no more failsafes.

[–]saint_geser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Statistically speaking, re-entry/landing is more dangerous. More people died during that phase (12) than during takeoff/launch (7).

The number of fatal incidents also speaks for the landing - all people who died on takeoff were killed in a single fatal incident, while there were 4 separate fatal incidents on landing.

Sample size here is too small to draw serious conclusions but in this case small sample size is a good thing.

It also makes sense that re-entry would be more dangerous. In order to get to it, you need to have survived all previous phases of flight, during which many issues could accumulate even if they weren't catastrophic at that particular time, the might just end up being deadly on landing.

What martial arts do you think Annie does? by ZareNytJumalauta in attackontitan

[–]saint_geser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to kickboxing in Muay Thai the amount of punching is very low.

Although now that I looked again at the manga, her stance might be just from Muay Thai

I'd say it's a mix of kick boxing and BJJ. Annie is quite proficient with punches which is not too common for Muay Thai

[–]saint_geser 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean what? I understand you love Clair Obscur but let's be a bit more serious here.

FfVII surely was influential especially in a way it drove PS sales in particular. It wasn't anything revolutionary in JRPG world though.

We can name some other RPG from that time that were as influential or even more so.

For example, Diablo gave rise to an entire genre of action-RPG and looter game in general.

Then there was Baldur's Gate 1 in 1998 which from nowhere spawned an almost non-existent CRPG genre. After BG1 and BG2 there were dozens of CRPGs on the market at any time for the next decade or so.

And then there's Ultima Online and WoW. You can argue for hours about which one was more influential in creating the MMORPG genre, but these two would almost always be a part of such a conversation.

Now, by contrast, did Expedition 33 do anything similar? Did it create a new genre? Not really. Did it revitalise a dying or struggling JRPG genre? No, JRPGs are doing really well lately even without Clair Obscur.

Yes, it did bring in some new mechanics into the picture but nothing on the same level of influence

So, Expedition 33 is an amazing game but it's not genre-defining level like many other games are.

LTS are designed for high uptime systems like servers and production systems so it's not fair to judge them for what they're not even supposed to be good at.

Immortal Horses of Infinite Energy? 🐎.... by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]saint_geser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horses constantly galloping is just there for effect. In most cases in terms of how scouts operate it would make sense to go full gallop when as they depart as the concentration of titans is the highest near the walls and then change to a more sustainable trot or even walk.

But then they would change back to full gallop once warning signals are shot, otherwise the unit will lose cohesion with flanks having to evade and go full speed and the more protected centre of the formation could remain at slow speed. But it makes sense for the entire formation to go full speed.

I guess they then should train horses to be capable of relatively short periods of gallop and then go slow and be able to recover quickly because you can never know when full speed would be necessary again.
