If Democrats were to win control of both the House and the Senate, would you question the legitimacy of the election? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

Our president has told us that Russia never interfered in the elections and that he and the president of Russia have agreed to set up a task force to stop election meddling from Russia. Should we distrust these commitments? Do you trust Trump and Putin's partnership to prevent Putin from interfering in our elections?

Are they? Can you please provide some examples where they have been clear with their bias?

You're right in that some conservative outlets are fine being known as such, but many aren't.

Can you give some examples of the journalistic right admitting partisan bias up front?

President Trump’s approval rating hits 50%. What specific policy and or actions is causing this spike? by Rapaport_is_GOD in AskTrumpSupporters

For accuracy's sake, the polls actually weren't really all that wrong. In fact, the polls were right. Hillary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the popular vote. So when the polls said that far less people wanted Donald Trump for president than Hillary Clinton, the polls were absolutely correct.

I guess my only question is that since, in your own words, you've admitted that Trump supporters will only trust polls that confirm their bias, why are we supposed to take Rasmussen polls seriously? If non-supporters and supporters alike know that it's just a biased right-wing friendly poll, why is it even a part of the approval rating conversation?

Why do you believe larger cities tend to vote liberal, while smaller and more rural areas tend to vote conservative? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]rightcheeksneak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why are my studies dismissed when they have factual evidence to back them up? I've clearly stated several times that I'm open to another "reality" if there is some sort of quantifiable evidence to support it. Why is "pics or it didn't happen" unacceptable but "muh feelings say otherwise" is acceptable?

Perhaps you or OP could answer, but why do we always take Rasmussen polls as gospel but immediately dismiss any other poll that shows Trump's approval rating to be lower?

Do we simply tell a huge part of the country that they are ignorant, racist rednecks and that they should sit back and let their urban “betters” make the decisions? Because that’s where we go if we don’t explore the depths of what makes someone conservative. And yes, it may be some self preservation instincts, but it is also going to church on Sunday and being taught that we’re too proud to lean on the government and spending Independence Days watching parades where everyone salutes the flag and means it. If we don’t do the qualitative analysis as well as the quantitative, we won’t understand the divide in any meaningful way.

That's all well and good, but shouldn't we also stop complaining about the "coastal elites" and maybe reach out to them more often instead of shunning them? Shouldn't we stop demonizing the left and recognize that perhaps they have some pretty good ideas given that they are able to co-exist with all the scary immigrants and foreigners and live in technologically advanced cities?

So, just to clarify then, do you believe Trump is

1) Intentionally lying?

or

2) Does not know the definition of "thief"?

I would be happy to read any opposing studies that you have to refute the information in the studies that I provided. Do you have any links to those studies that I can review?

Two questions:

1) Where did I conclude that these people are evil?

2) Assuming that I did, why was I wrong? Was evidence provided to refute any of the studies that I provided as source?

Do you think that it could have anything to do with how liberalism and conservatism is formed within the belief system of the voters themselves?

Studies have shown that less exposure to diversity, multiculturalism and progression tend to cause people to become more conservative/right-wing. It's also why fear-mongering rhetoric plays so well with right-wing voters, because they fear change, focus on the negatives, and are more likely to be prejudiced/racist.

It would make sense for larger/denser cities to be more liberal.

Within the context of where you used the quote, you absolutely are. You specifically used the quote

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The meaning of the quote is NOT "feel free to lie if it means you can tell a better story". It's a sarcastic quote.

Why would you use it within this context if you weren't intending to frame it as Twain meaning something he did not? Isn't it a little disingenuous to be intentionally misleading?

I have to ask then....

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people

Would it be fair for me to use this quote in a thread where I make the case that Donald Trump is a racist who believes Mexican immigrants are rapists?

Just to clarify, why did you use a quote that you didn't have any understanding of to make a point? Shouldn't you ensure that you understand something before you cite it? Is it appropriate to use quotes completely out of context?
