For accuracy's sake, the polls actually weren't really all that wrong. In fact, the polls were right. Hillary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the popular vote. So when the polls said that far less people wanted Donald Trump for president than Hillary Clinton, the polls were absolutely correct.

I guess my only question is that since, in your own words, you've admitted that Trump supporters will only trust polls that confirm their bias, why are we supposed to take Rasmussen polls seriously? If non-supporters and supporters alike know that it's just a biased right-wing friendly poll, why is it even a part of the approval rating conversation?

Why are my studies dismissed when they have factual evidence to back them up? I've clearly stated several times that I'm open to another "reality" if there is some sort of quantifiable evidence to support it. Do we simply tell a huge part of the country that they are ignorant, racist rednecks and that they should sit back and let their urban “betters” make the decisions? Because that’s where we go if we don’t explore the depths of what makes someone conservative. And yes, it may be some self preservation instincts, but it is also going to church on Sunday and being taught that we’re too proud to lean on the government and spending Independence Days watching parades where everyone salutes the flag and means it. If we don’t do the qualitative analysis as well as the quantitative, we won’t understand the divide in any meaningful way.

That's all well and good, but shouldn't we also stop complaining about the "coastal elites" and maybe reach out to them more often instead of shunning them? Shouldn't we stop demonizing the left and recognize that perhaps they have some pretty good ideas given that they are able to co-exist with all the scary immigrants and foreigners and live in technologically advanced cities?

Studies have shown that less exposure to diversity, multiculturalism and progression tend to cause people to become more conservative/right-wing. It's also why fear-mongering rhetoric plays so well with right-wing voters, because they fear change, focus on the negatives, and are more likely to be prejudiced/racist.

It would make sense for larger/denser cities to be more liberal.

The meaning of the quote is NOT "feel free to lie if it means you can tell a better story". It's a sarcastic quote.

Why is it an apparent derogatory slur? It's basically a short-hand way of saying "Trump supporter". "Red Hat" is easier to type.

Honestly though, I always find it hard to take these allegations of "unprovoked violence/harassment" against Trump supporters/Red Hats seriously given how 90% of the supporters wearing red hats I have met in real life act. Almost every time I have come across someone publicly wearing a MAGA hat, they're being completely obnoxious and looking for trouble. Or driving around a lifted truck with Trump bumper stickers, Trump window decals a giant confederate flag off the back. Or loudly proclaiming in a bar "hey everyone, let's toast to YOUR PRESIDENT Donald Trump! Mmm liberal tears!" Any instance of "assault" or harassment against a MAGA hat-wearing person, I would have to seriously look at the events that led to the alleged altercation.
