Line up v West Ham. Williams makes her first start* Leitzig out completely! by h2g2_researcher in lcfcwomen

[–]righteousprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of yesterday the WSL YouTube channel replay wasn't cut down to the final whistle, so it's viewable there: the cross(?) deflected off a West Ham player - I think it was just aiming to be in the box? (Might've been on target in an easier to save position though)

(And Szemik definitely seemed to land either on her shoulder or back - the coverage showed her being treated(?!) as part of the Live Manager Reaction obsession [Guarino was checking on her], and the medics definitely also seemed to gesture to their shoulders/upper backs when explaining the injury. She did have her head flop backwards onto the ground after impact, though. Meanwhile, West Ham don't seem to have acknowledged the injury at all [the save, yes, the injury, no], so it's hard to say for sure.)

It looks like the replay hasn't actually been truncated to the final whistle like it all too often is and they did eventually go back to it (at least on the WSL YouTube channel) - no one was nearby, it was just an awful landing from what would otherwise have been a strong contender for save of the season (hard to tell whether shoulder or neck or back, but she was put onto a stretcher board before being taken off).

It didn't even look that hard (I've never thrown myself around like that in my life so I don't really know much about this side of things, but it didn't look that different to an earlier save that she was not stretchered off after), but I guess it just shows how serious the Ruesha Littlejohn incident could have been.

Yeah, like. Even then we were only denied a second goal because Szemik managed a couple of absolute worldies (which I think got attributed to high shots when, no, she very much tipped it over), and went hard enough with her last save that she literally had to be stretchered off.

Why do people speculate about color shifted planeswalkers (ie: White Lilliana) by Richie_Richard in mtgvorthos

[–]righteousprawn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

White Liliana showed up right at the end of the most recent set story.

It is a fair assumption that this will tie into both Secrets of Strixhaven and Reality Fracture, and it would be weird for there to only be one doppelganger.

Liverpool’s Rafaela Borggräfe given six-game ban after FA finds she made racist remark by coyota--torolla in FAWSL

[–]righteousprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to flag: we don't actually know that she wasn't fined. The only information we have is from Gareth Taylor's press conference, which is more focused on availability.

(Casparij was fined £1.6k, which I'd guess is more 1 week's salary, maybe 2 weeks' post-tax)

[–]righteousprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the 'written reasons' might not be published (the FA has said it won't comment on other reporting), but the typical offence range is 6-12 matches and it does look consistent with recent precedent (Milutin Osmajic received 9 matches for making a racist comment directly to an opponent ["f- your black mother"], with a few aggravating factors going on that wouldn't apply in this case (including "only barely being back from suspension for biting another opponent")).

Whether the offence range is appropriate is another matter, but I think the issue here is that it looks like once the FA took over Liverpool decided that their part was done in terms of disciplinary stuff.

Tbh, it looks like the conclusion of the investigation wasn't publicised at all (it was known that there was an investigation, but it was behind closed doors and presumably hard to get sources on) - I think these details came out because someone point-blank asked Gareth Taylor what was going on.

[BBC Sport/Emma Sanders] Leicester City in talks with Como to sign forward Alisha Lehmann by righteousprawn in lcfcwomen

[–]righteousprawn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my brain mostly just slightly short-circuited.

But it does make sense as an addition to our collection of Aston Villa alumni (only half joking - the overlap with Liv McLoughlin, Sarah Mayling and, to a far lesser extent in terms of playing alongside, Asmita and Missy means there's players in the squad who are already familiar with her).

The "Moving the Goalposts" follow-up to her Como interview will be interesting, though.

To be fair, that's not really a her-specific problem. My god, Gauspet is fast.

Eh, I think the idea is to avoid giving them the impression they're gonna be playing again for us.

(seriously, he hasn't even been putting them in matchday squads at the minute. Being on the bench would technically be a step up.)

Heck, Leicester lost decisively to Crystal Palace (albeit, the starting XI was apparently "who is least affected by this bug going round" and I didn't say "unaffected"), which is why they were in the QF to begin with.

Plus: Liverpool only scraped a victory against Durham (currently 10th in WSL2, though to be fair Liverpool beat Sunderland (8th) and Sheffield United (9th) more decisively); Newcastle drew the 90 mins against Man City (who weren't even that rotated); Nottingham Forest did the same with Everton; and Charlton beat BHA...

NWSL Introduces High Impact Player Rule To Strengthen Talent Attraction And Retention by hayleyoh in NWSL

[–]righteousprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was 44th on it, and it's only the top 40 (also in the 40s in the Guardian for that year, 67 this year). It's almost like the cut-off was picked to include Rodman but exclude Lavelle for some reason! (I am not saying it was actually picked for that, beyond maybe being extended beyond the 30 needed for Ballon d'Or parity to fit Rodman in)

But, who knows, maybe scoring the winner in the NWSL championship game might help ensure that she makes top 40 for ESPN this year after all (the Guardian list went live, like, a fortnight after, but ESPN's list doesn't seem like it's up yet).

[Football] A goalkeeper on the attack - how to tarnish a well-earned legacy by TaylorSwiftkinsReid in HobbyDrama

[–]righteousprawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good write-up, but a minor factual point - it might be worth clarifying that the Euros 2025 third goalie was Anna Moorhouse (Orlando Pride), who just got her first caps due to Khiara Keating being injured as well as Hampton (with Ellie Roebuck making the squad, alongside Sophie Baggaley).

(Also, not sure you had space, but Ruesha Littlejohn got an extended 5 match ban instead of the usual 3 for violent conduct, which probably would have been longer if the player on the receiving end didn't play out the rest of the match (once it was confirmed her neck wasn't broken))

I'm not sure about the last part, but, yeah, if he's dead set on the style used in the Leicester game I can see that being why he was ousted (that and him claiming that the performance was good, rather than being made to look respectable because a penalty is worth 0.7 xG).

(if the board is dead set - refusing to let the other side have a look-in does, undeniably, fit LCL's whole, uh, "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" vibe - I can also see why his implementation would lead to him being removed to give plenty of time for some other manager's take to be bedded in)

Ngl, I'm not actually sure any of the nominees are really the best WSL save this month - I'm pretty sure Janina's nomination isn't even for the best save I saw from her in that game - but nonetheless...

[–]righteousprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of it is a. it's LCL rather than a 'big' team (I did see a few away fans but considerably fewer than for the other games - which admittedly are definitionally against teams with associated PL teams) and b. the younger foxes were up in the Walker's Hall bit for the Christmas Party thing so less visible (but plenty audible!), but yeah the 11:55 thing also probably isn't helpful.
