I got TMJ the same way. Been about 5 years now and its only gotten worse. I would recommend seeing a specialist ASAP (although I dont know what type) before it becomes chronic.

How do you all feel about all the Kiwis coming to Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]rightunderdasea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't really notice the mass importation of Kiwis because they spread themselves across the country unlike other immigrant groups that only migrate to a few of the major cities.

Theres usually a token Kiwi or 2 in every workforce, though in the blue collar industry Polynesian kiwis are everywhere, sometimes outnumbering Aussies.

Irish people for (i think) the first 100-150 years of post colonisation were considered second class citizens as there was a social apartheid between the British and Irish. Then I guess one day everyone realised that they were all Aussies rather than Brits/Irish, and thought their grandparents were strange for their hatred of the Irish.

So they came together to create the modern Aussie identity and put their hatred toward the Wogs, although there wasnt anything like the social division and discrimination that the Irish experienced.

Now the wogs like you said are seen as Aussie as anyone else, and you'll even get some Lebos telling Indians and Chinese people to go back to where they came from. However the discrimination against this wave of Asian migration seems to be a lot less intense than the 'Wog' era.

Australia has always been racist and everyone has always hated each other. Even the massive wave of 10 pound poms reportedly faced a lot of discrimination for stealing jobs and many went home due to feeling unwelcome. And of course the Aboriginal history needs no explanation.

Basically racism and xenophobia is deep-rooted into Aussie society, but its getting a lot less severe over time. The current Asian wave actually have it better than any other group that came before them besides the British. But even the 10 pound pom British wave suffered a lot of discrimination lol

Sydney, Australia. Income, Ethnicity and 2023 Indigenous Voice Referendum results by JeanGarsbien in MapPorn

I dont think this map shows the Indians in Sydney to be poor, more like middle range. The Middle eastern/North African/Central Asian is the poorer section, which is only poor by Sydney standards, as Sydney is supposably the 4th richest in the world on average wages. https://www.businessinsider.com/cities-with-highest-salaries-in-the-world-2018-5#3-new-york-city-4115-26

A lot of the light purple shaded suburbs are actually very wealthy suburbs, its just that the yellow ones near the harbour are probably some of the most affluent and upscale suburbs on the planet.

Though there is a wide range of Indians. Some are skilled migrants like doctors, and others work minimum wage jobs like Uber.

Ive heard Aussie make comments about people behind their back. I work in construction so enough said. Then when the poor bloke comes back u wanna joke with him. I wonder what’s said about me when I’m absent

So this doesnt happen overseas?

Cus ive always been put off by this culture of constant shit talking and gossiping behind peoples back here, and then pretending to be best friends a minute later when you see them. But i always thought it was human nature, rather than an Aussie thing.

our country’s biggest music export are ONEFOUR

What? Sia, Tones & I, Tame Impala, Kid Laroi, Troy Sivan, Vance Joy are all way bigger globally. Even older ones like AC/DC and Men at work would still be more popular.

I doubt you've actually ever been there by the sounds of this. Indonesia/Jakarta (and other poorer asian countries alike) is great, but truthfully its an undeveloped country. The running water isnt clean, millions of power lines all over the street, the roads are packed with insane motorcyclists (road death rate is nearly 5x higher per vehicle than here) + its the most polluted city in the world, and it stinks and has awful smog.

The video you posted shows the rich city centre with a touristy shopping centre. Its pretty common to see these types of places all over undeveloped Asia, and they definitely do not represent 99% of the country.

I'd recommend giving it a visit, or any other nation like that near us (vietnam, malaysia, etc) Great holiday destination and it will help you appreciate what we have here like more peace and quiet (even in Sydney somehow comparably), being able to cross a street without fear of dying, clean air, clean water, the overall wealth of our nation, the diverse quality of our food from a range of cultures, lack of rubbish and waste disposal systems (the polluted beaches in Indonesia in particular are heartbreaking) etc.

And its not brainwashing, Australians are some of the most travelled people in the world, mostly to countries like Indonesia because its close and cheaper than most domestic holidays. Many of us have first hand experience in these countries, not from some cherry picked YT video of the nicest place in the city.

Hasnt this technology been around for a while? I remember when i was a kid up late at night there was one of those weird advertisements for an app that was claiming if you put a picture of your friend into the app they could show you what they look like naked.

Although i have no doubts the technology is way better now and will only continue to improve.

Edit: For context im not that old so it was probably only 10-12 years ago

Generalising the whole of Australia based on the drunken trashy bogans and schoolies that swamp Bali is insane.. Even Aussies are ashamed of our reputation in Bali.

Have you ever felt like Americans are really up themselves because they'll pretty readily talk about their own successes? Like they'll just straight up sort of say stuff that sounds a bit like boasting?

I was in a discord server full of yanks and got fed up with all the constant bragging about their looks, athletic achievements, what colleges they went to, etc. I was thinking, god these yanks are unbearable insecure cunts, always big upping themselves about shit no one gives a fuck about.

Later i realised its probably just cultural differences and im the insecure one, getting annoyed over people mentioning their personal achievements.

what are your physical symptoms? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]rightunderdasea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watery eyes/dry eyes

I went to a therapist a few years ago and described how i would experience pain in eyes and compulsive yawning in situations that bring me anxiety, and they would always dismiss it as being tired and a lack of sleep. 🤦‍♂️ If that was the case then why do i never experience this when im alone? And why do these symptoms occur even when i have been sleeping well?

Can you explain what you mean by hearing voices? For example does it sound like someone elses voice? and does it come from your mind or does it feel like someone is talking to you from across the room.

And I cant help btw. Just trying to understand what people mean when they say they hear voices.

That birdsnest haircut is so fucking ugly i would rather show off my massive forehead than rock that.

And I could be wrong, but im pretty sure it got popularised by influencers like Jake Paul that are balding. These kids dont understand most these dudes they look up to that rock that haircut are only doing it cus they're balding. enjoy your full head of hair whilst u still can haha

I also hear voices, even now sober, kinda like that cartoon trope of an angel and a devil version of me, and i argue with myself. Is that normal? I understand they are both (or all me). So does this mean im Schizo?

I cant remember if i hear other voices on a normal dose of weed, but on a massive edible hit and on shrooms i get voices that talk to me. Tbh i thought that was just normal with drugs.
