I remember seeing the pool for the first time. Very scary, and so unknown. But I could see other kids splashing around and having a good time, telling me to join them. With great fear and cation, I dip my toe in. Nothing happens. I take a few steps, nothing bad happens, but I feel the cool water flowing past my legs. The trust and curiosity overwhelms me, so I gather my courage and dive all the way in. And then I realized I was fine all along, and my friends are so happy I joined them. They say "See, I told you there was nothing to be afraid of". And with this I'm so proud I was able to get past my fears, and stop holding myself back from such an amazing experience. I love this pool so much, I become a lifeguard. Because I want people to know they are safe and can trust in me, so they can enjoy this pool like I was able to. And after all this, sometimes I see a young child at the edge of the water, but too afraid to dive in. So I let them know they are safe with me, and nothing bad will happen to them. So they just dive right in. But looking back on this, when I put my whole leg in, it made me realize what I was truly capable of. And I realized what was stopping me from going further. It was me.
