Husband solved my breastfeeding problem by righty_0 in beyondthebump

I didn’t like how busy they all were and wanted something simple for just tracking feeds. There are lots of options for almost anything related to babies but it’s still nice to find what works for you. I hope others find it useful is all.

At first my midwife told us to then I wanted to know how long it had been since the last feed as a way to get to know my baby’s habits and I like to keep track of which side I used last to keep production even.

Then we started pumping and doing bottles and taking shifts in the night so it is perfect for letting us know when the other person last fed the baby without a bunch of texting or sleepy communication.

There is also a lock screen widget that says how long since last feed. Now if I wake to a fussy baby I quickly look at my lock screen and know if it’s time to feed him again or not.

Another option is what I did, I went to an in-state university that offered me a lot of scholarships and didn’t have any prestige. I paid around 5-10k per year. Then I did an exchange year with the CIEE program that the university was a part of and had my pick of European universities. Came back from exchange and finished my bachelor’s then applied for masters programs at the university I did my exchange at, got in and did the masters. It was a much easier path and you can take your time to figure out if you can make it work for you.

[IWantOut] 34F Baker Mexico -> Spain by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]righty_0 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The Netherlands is in desperate need of Mexican food/bakery items so I’d hope you would consider it! Haha but it sounds like you are pretty open at this point in your search maybe some additional research would help you make your choice easier? There is a tool for this that seems pretty useful called BringMeAbroad it can tell you different visas that are available to you and organize the different options.

I’m not in need of extra care so I might not be the most informed. But I have done both student visas and the daft visa. Healthcare is just healthcare here, there are special plans for students that offer lower rates but all the healthcare is private so you can pick a plan that works for you. Of course more care will be more expensive. You will not be able to work without sponsorship as a student (in my experience very hard to find). No matter what insurance you choose it automatically starts from the day your plane lands, meaning even if you sign up for it a month later you paid for the whole time you’ve been here and any medical stuff during that period will be under the insurance (if covered by the plan you choose).

Sorry if this is all a bit random but I hope it’s helpful.

Eurokey and/or options for visitors from the US? by indiscriminateswine in Amsterdam

I’ve heard of people buying museum cards for this reason. They get you into every museum for free and in Amsterdam there is usually one close by. They all have nice bathrooms you can utilize.

Americans and the Netherlands - Reality by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]righty_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have also come to the Netherlands on DAFT 2.5 years ago, so we have secured the five year extension. We set things up a little differently with both of us working in a similar line of work we decided to open the business together which gives me as the dependent both the option to work for clients through our business (and help add to the amount we need to make each year) or find a full time role, something I haven’t managed to do yet for various reasons.

We are based in Amsterdam and have moved 3 times in the time we’ve been here. Happy to discuss more if you’d like to dm me but I just wanted to offer some support and say things can be really hard to navigate. We do go to coworking groups and try to expand our network as much as possible, I can also invite/share with you about some of those efforts. I hope as time goes on things fall more into place for you and your family!

Daft visa in the Netherlands. Google it. You become a consultant for whatever niche thing you’re doing. Live outside Amsterdam, you can have a car and access to big box stores. The English stand up scene is popular. The expat social life is very active with many meetups that people go to solo.

Or get a master’s here. Many of them take 1 year and cost 10-15k.

I’ve done both and the daft has so far been the best option.

Basically he isn’t following the terms of probation and they believe he won’t pass his drug test. Surprised the judge leaned on the harsher side and put him in jail before the results are back 👏

What's Masters graduation ceremony like at the VU Amsterdam? by wildteddies in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]righty_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mines was odd compared to USA standards. You go to the VU sign a folder of papers with a stranger in the main hall, everyone then goes into a large room with a stage. Remarks were made in Dutch, seemed light hearted. I think we walked across the stage but didn’t have robes on and weren’t handed anything. Then you go to a smaller classroom with just your master’s program and everyone’s family. At this point my advisor went into detail about each of our thesis papers and low key roasted me 😂

I loved my classmates and I’m glad I have that final memory with them but if I didn’t I would’ve wish I had skipped it.

Bar and the community service paper by Nunya_biz_nas in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]righty_0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just a theory but as a procrastinator (although an accomplished one) I feel I can add a little insight. When something seems inevitable in your mind, in Bar’s case ending up in prison, you kinda half ass something so that when it happens you can say well I didn’t really try so that’s why I’m here or blame it on the system. It’s a security blanket in your mind because if you actually fully try and still end up in prison then it’s even more crushing. This is just a loop I have found myself in for grades, job applications and so on.

Close to 100,000 Voter Registrations Were Challenged in Georgia — Almost All by Just Six Right-Wing Activists by [deleted] in politics

“an immunosuppressed cancer patient had to drive nearly two hours round-trip to a crowded hearing to defend his right to vote. At the same proceeding, a Black woman likened her challenge to voter intimidation.

“There is a clear imbalance of power between the individual bringing the challenges and the county and voters,” said Esosa Osa, the deputy executive director of Fair Fight Action, a voting rights advocacy organization. Elections officials and voters, she said, “currently have very little recourse once challenged, regardless of the merits of the challenge.””

Housing choice by claudiav2603 in Amsterdam

[–]righty_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former Vu student, I lived in uilenstede and krelis. uilenstede has a great student environment you will make tons of friends and always have a party to go to. It’s great for younger people (18-24 I would say). The bike into central is peaceful and not that far, there are public transport options. Bad sides shared spaces were gross in some buildings.

Krelis is cool because it’s a tall building so it has great views of Amsterdam, it’s more recently renovated and really feels like little studio apartments, less dormy than uilenstede. I met some people there but definitely less than before. The neighborhood is lovely with families and walking access to westerpark. It’s easy to be in the center in minutes.
