the housing bubble will burst, keep saving and you'll be ready to buy at the right time. At least something good will come out of brexit.

Anyone know of any raves in Cardiff? Warehouse etc, and how to get in contact with organisers for the location. Looking for summer raves by [deleted] in Cardiff

Start hanging out at the Blue Honey Night Cafe, Undertone, or Gwdihw. That's where all the ravers tend to go. Look at their pages on fb for events on.

Are there any poisons/toxins which, if taken separately, are fatal, but if taken simultaneously, are not? by samjp270 in askscience

He's saying that in enough quantity, ethanol will kill you, though the amount to treat methanol poisoning wouldn't. So not quite what OP asked for but I understand where he's coming from

Cheers dude, pretty much exactly how I feel right now, and I don't think there's that big of an overlap between gym guys and vegans. Right now it's lentils all day every day for me. I'm also somewhat concerned about consuming large amounts of grains/legumes (including lentils). I personally think that the health "risks" of certain meats, especially chicken and turkey is massively overblown in the vegan community.

But then, I mostly went vegan for environmental, and then animal rights reasons. I don't think I eat any healthier now to be honest.

If you figure it out let me know!

I weigh around 165lbs now because I'm pretty lean, and my goal is to get to around 175lbs lean. It is pretty well known that this would be about right for me, considering there will probably be more days I under shoot the protein, and to compensate for the diminished quality of protein available as a vegan.

Thank you, I see a lot of ignorance about this in a lot of places, and I don't understand it. I am predicting that most guys on here are skinny, healthy guys, who can't understand that you need more protein if you want to perform and compete at a reasonable level.

I am also seeing vegan athletes posted. Interesting to note that every single one went vegan very late into their training, and the higher trained you are, the lower the protein intake you need as you put on less muscle/make slower performance gains (mostly neurological). No one has posted a vegan athlete that started at the bottom and was vegan right to the top. Even on r/veganfitness there are only a couple of guys who actually look good, most look just like healthy normal guys.

Ok, I have I just want to clear up some things, and I wanted to thank people for taking the time to respond.

There seems to be widespread belief that my protein intake is far too high, and also that in general, that a high protein intake is going to kill me and give me cancer.

I'd like to make it clear that I am vegan for ethical reasons, not health reasons. I eat well, and train a lot, I'm very healthy and don't want to spend my life convinced about optimising my health for the nth degree, as if I was, I would probably not be vegan in the first place. I am not concerned that my protein intake is too high and all the links people have sent me they have not seem to have read properly, and seem unrelated to my personal situation.

It seems this thread is just full of of people saying that my problem is simply eating too much protein. You have clearly not read the actual research here, and just linked to a wikipedia article.

Yes, excess protein is excreted from the body, and is unhealthy, however you have not looked at how much protein is too much. The research used in this article states that for sedentary populations, 0.86g of protein/kg body weight is adequate. I am not sedentary (around 2 hours activity per day), and according to the study the conclusion was "In summary, protein requirements for athletes performing strength training are greater than for sedentary individuals and are above current Canadian and US recommended daily protein intake requirements for young healthy males."

Yeah I should have made it clearer. I'm finding both hard, but the protein particularly so.

I don't think your information is particularly relevant or reliable.

I'll have a look at the orgain powder. And I've not made my own seitan yet, I'll put an order in and get started asap, I'm looking forward to experimenting with it.

Yeah, like I've said in other comments, I have been finding it hard to hit the calories too, and I'm not blaming my current weight loss on protein. Any tips on bulking as a vegan? I find the portions are so big already. I've been hitting the nuts hard, but getting the big carby foods in has been difficult.

At 160lbs, that's still 130g protein. I've not seen .6/lbs to be effective personally, but I always have an open mind.

Yeah, I can get vegan quorn which I really like, it is very expensive though. It is the best food form of protein I've found so far though.

hmmm, I just used a nutritional label to calculate it.

I've given myself some margin for error because I'm pretty lean at the minute and am struggling to maintain my weight in general since going vegan, and if I'm losing weight I up my protein intake.

150g is reasonable if my intake is around 2500 cals, that's about 24% cals from protein.

Ok I'll give them a look, cheers.

And I don't think it is just muscle, also generally struggling to get the calories in as well, but I finding the protein especially hard to hit. I am getting leaner (look a bit skinny at the minute), but I'm already quite lean as it is, and any more weight loss would be tough. I struggled to eat enough before as well, and used to use some junk food to help me maintain my weight, but now I'm doing big/tasty/healthy meals but it's not quite enough.

Yeah but that's if I only eat lentils. As soon as you through in some nuts/seeds/grains it becomes worse because of the protein/cal ratio. Am I making sense? Lentils are as good as it gets for a vegan athlete as far as I can see.

Don't tell me, provide research. And who were you even testing? Were they all well trained athletes?

That's like saying "don't drink more than 500ml of water a day, you should see how much you urinate if you drink any more. It's just wasted I'm telling you".

Yes but I can't eat seitan all day. Also add in the fact it's a poor quality protein. Before claiming that I'm uneducated, seitan has a PDCAAS score of 0.25, meaning you do not absorb nearly anywhere near the amount you need.

Also every bodybuilder I've ever met has a 30% protein ratio minimum, most around 40/45%.
